1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to congratulate Captain Clay Childers of
4 the Metropolis Fire Department on the occasion of being
5 awarded the 2024 Medal of Valor by the Office of the State Fire
6 Marshal; and
7 WHEREAS, The Medal of Valor award is given by the State of
8 Illinois to a firefighter for an act of heroism or bravery that
9 clearly demonstrated courage and dedication in the face of
10 danger while in the performance of duty; and
11 WHEREAS, On October 23, 2023, Capt. Childers entered the
12 home of a Metropolis resident while the structure was on fire;
13 upon entering the structure, he discovered a person suffering
14 from smoke inhalation and proceeded to carry the victim to
15 safety, saving her life in the process; and
16 WHEREAS, For more than two decades, Capt. Childers has
17 consistently demonstrated his unwavering commitment to
18 protecting the lives and property of the citizens of Illinois,
19 placing himself in harm's way to ensure the safety of others
20 while displaying remarkable bravery and heroism; and
21 WHEREAS, Capt. Childers' dedication to serving the

1 community, combined with his quick thinking and decisive
2 actions, has undoubtedly saved countless lives and prevented
3 untold property damage; and
4 WHEREAS, Capt. Childers serves as a shining example of the
5 bravery, professionalism, and heroism that define the
6 firefighting profession; and
7 WHEREAS, Capt. Childers will be honored at the 31st Annual
8 Illinois Fallen Firefighter Memorial & Firefighting Medal of
9 Honor Awards Ceremony on May 14, 2024; therefore, be it
10 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
11 HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
12 we congratulate Captain Clay Childers of the Metropolis Fire
13 Department on receiving the 2024 Medal of Valor award by the
14 Office of the State Fire Marshal; and be it further
15 RESOLVED, That we commend him for his unwavering
16 dedication to public service and for his outstanding
17 contributions to the safety and well-being of the citizens of
18 Illinois; and be it further
