4-AN ACT concerning safety.
5-Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
6-represented in the General Assembly:
7-Section 5. The Environmental Protection Act is amended by
8-adding Section 13.10 as follows:
9-(415 ILCS 5/13.10 new)
10-Sec. 13.10. Microplastics. By March 1, 2024, the Agency
11-shall make publicly available on its website the following
12-information:
13-(1) a description of microplastics and their effects
14-on aquatic life and human health, including relevant
15-background information and sources of microplastics;
16-(2) any federal and State regulatory actions taken to
17-address microplastics and their effects on aquatic life
18-and human health;
19-(3) contact information for an employee of the Agency
20-who is available to provide information on microplastics
21-if a member of the public has questions or concerns; and
22-(4) additional resources, including, but not limited
23-to, links to webpages containing information on
24-microplastics on the United States Environmental
25-Protection Agency's website, the National Oceanic and
26-Atmospheric Administration's website, the National

37-The Agency shall update the website as additional
38-information or data regarding microplastics in the State
39-becomes available.
40-By October 1, 2024, the Agency shall submit a report to the
41-General Assembly and the Governor that provides an overview of
42-any Agency actions relating to microplastics, a comparative
43-analysis of actions in other states regarding microplastics in
44-the environment, and information on the latest guidance from
45-the United States Environmental Protection Agency.
