Short title. This Act may be cited as the Road 5 Designation Program Act. 6 Section 5. Purpose. Road designation program. 16 (a) Any person who desires to have an interstate or 17 State-numbered highway interchange or bridge or segment of 18 highway under the jurisdiction of the Department designated 19 shall petition the Department by submitting an application in 20 a form prescribed by the Secretary. The Department shall be notified upon the 15 approval or denial of a proposed designation. Upon the 16 approval of a proposed designation, the petitioner shall 17 submit a fee to be determined by the Secretary to cover the 18 costs of constructing and maintaining the proposed signs on 19 the interchange, bridge, or segment of highway. The fee shall 20 not exceed the cost of constructing and maintaining each sign. 21 (c) The Department shall give notice of any proposed 22 designation under this Section on the Department's official 23 public website. 24 (d) The honorary signs may be placed upon interstate or 25 State-numbered highway interchanges or upon bridges or 26 segments of highway under the jurisdiction of the Department SB1602 - 2 - LRB103 26312 MXP 52673 b SB1602- 3 -LRB103 26312 MXP 52673 b SB1602 - 3 - LRB103 26312 MXP 52673 b SB1602 - 3 - LRB103 26312 MXP 52673 b 1 according to the provisions of this Section, and any 2 applicable federal and State limitations or conditions on 3 highway signage, including location and spacing. 4 (e) Two signs shall be erected for each interchange, 5 bridge, or segment of highway designation processed under this 6 Section. 7 (f) No interchange, bridge, or segment of highway may be 8 named or designated under this Section if it carries an 9 existing designation. 10 (g) All money received by the Department for the 11 construction and maintenance of interchange, bridge, or 12 segment of highway signs shall be deposited into the Road 13 Fund. 14 (h) The documents and fees required under this Section 15 shall be submitted to the Department. The Department shall 16 waive all fees for road designations made in honor of members 17 of the United States Armed Forces and first responders who 18 have died in the line of duty. 19 Section 99.
