1  AN ACT concerning transportation.
2  Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3  represented in the General Assembly:
4  Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by
5  changing Sections 3-606.1 and 3-606.5 as follows:
6  (625 ILCS 5/3-606.1) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 3-606.1)
7  Sec. 3-606.1. Retired members of the General Assembly.
8  Upon receipt of a request from a retired member of the General
9  Assembly, accompanied by the appropriate application and fee,
10  the Secretary of State shall issue to such retired member
11  plates bearing appropriate wording or abbreviations indicating
12  that the holder is a retired member of the General Assembly.
13  Such plates may be issued for a 2 year period beginning January
14  1st of each odd-numbered year and ending December 31st of the
15  subsequent even-numbered year. Upon the death of a retired
16  member who has been issued a retired member of the General
17  Assembly plate, that member's surviving spouse shall be
18  entitled to retain the plate so long as the surviving spouse is
19  a resident of Illinois and transfers the registration to his
20  or her name within 90 days of the death of the retired member.
21  "Retired member" means any individual who (a) has served
22  as a member of the General Assembly for a minimum of 6 years,
23  or (b) is 62 or older, has served as a member of the General

1  Assembly for a minimum of 4 years, and retired prior to the
2  convening of the 83rd General Assembly.
3  The fees and procedures relating to such plates for
4  retired members of the General Assembly shall be the same as
5  the fees and procedures applicable to personalized plates
6  issued under this Code.
7  This Section shall not apply to any retired member of the
8  General Assembly who receives a felony conviction that relates
9  to any transactions carried out as part of the retired
10  member's official duties.

13  Sec. 3-606.5. Retired Executive Branch Constitutional
14  Officers. Upon receipt of a request from a retired executive
15  branch constitutional officer, accompanied by the appropriate

18  appropriate wording or abbreviations indicating that the
19  holder is a retired executive branch constitutional officer
20  and the office held. Such plates may be issued for a 2-year

1  constitutional officer's surviving spouse shall be entitled to
2  retain the plate so long as the surviving spouse is a resident
3  of Illinois and transfers the registration to his or her name
4  within 90 days of the death of the retired executive branch
5  constitutional officer. For purposes of this Section, "retired
6  executive branch constitutional officer" means any individual
7  who has served at least one full term of office as (i)
8  Governor; (ii) Lieutenant Governor; (iii) Attorney General;
9  (iv) Secretary of State; (v) Comptroller; or (vi) Treasurer;
10  and who was not removed from office pursuant to Section 14 of
11  Article IV of the Illinois Constitution of 1970.
12  This Section shall not apply to any retired executive
13  branch constitutional officer who receives a felony conviction
14  that relates to any transactions carried out as part of the
15  retired executive branch constitutional officer's official
16  duties.
