4-AN ACT concerning transportation.
5-Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
6-represented in the General Assembly:
7-Section 5. The Department of Transportation Law of the
8-Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is amended by adding
9-Section 2705-625 as follows:
10-(20 ILCS 2705/2705-625 new)
11-Sec. 2705-625. Safety improvements to State roads for
12-pedestrians and cyclists. The Department shall develop a
13-policy which ensures the safety of pedestrians and cyclists on
14-roadways within this State. The policy shall provide that
15-improvements will be made during routine maintenance and
16-within a distance of 500 feet of the maintenance work to any
17-State roads within a municipality to include, but not be
18-limited to, high visibility signage, crosswalk improvements,
19-curb bump outs, barrier protected bike lanes, and bus
20-shelters.
21-Beginning January 1, 2024, the Department shall provide a
22-semi-annual report to the General Assembly on pedestrian and
23-bicycle safety improvements on non-highway State routes that
24-have been initiated, are in progress, or are recently
25-completed. The Department shall provide the reports every June
26-30th and January 1st thereafter.

4+2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
