13	13	1 AN ACT concerning education.
14	14	2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
15	15	3 represented in the General Assembly:
16	16	4 Section 5. The Care of Students with Diabetes Act is
17	17	5 amended by changing Section 27 as follows:
18	18	6 (105 ILCS 145/27)
19	19	7 Sec. 27. Undesignated glucagon. A school may maintain a
20	20	8 supply of glucagon in any secure location that is immediately
21	21	9 accessible to a school nurse or a delegated care aide;
22	22	10 however, a school shall maintain a supply of glucagon in any
23	23	11 secure location that is immediately accessible to a school
24	24	12 nurse or a delegated care aide if a student diagnosed with
25	25	13 diabetes attends the school. Schools shall obtain a
26	26	14 prescription for glucagon, even if the school is not required
27	27	15 to maintain the glucagon. A physician, a physician assistant
28	28	16 who has prescriptive authority under Section 7.5 of the
29	29	17 Physician Assistant Practice Act of 1987, or an advanced
30	30	18 practice registered nurse who has prescriptive authority under
31	31	19 Section 65-40 of the Nurse Practice Act may prescribe
32	32	20 undesignated glucagon in the name of the school to be
33	33	21 maintained for use when necessary. Any supply of undesignated
34	34	22 glucagon must be maintained in accordance with the
35	35	23 manufacturer's instructions. A school nurse or delegated care

76	76	1 aide may administer undesignated glucagon if he or she is
77	77	2 authorized to administer the undesignated glucagon through a
78	78	3 student's diabetes care plan and if the student's prescribed
79	79	4 glucagon is not available on-site or has expired. Immediately
80	80	5 after the administration of undesignated glucagon, a school
81	81	6 must notify the school nurse, unless the school nurse was the
82	82	7 one administering the undesignated glucagon, and the student's
83	83	8 parent or guardian or emergency contact, if known, and health
84	84	9 care provider of its use.
