The Care of Students with Diabetes Act is 5 amended by changing Section 27 as follows: 6 (105 ILCS 145/27) 7 Sec. 27. Undesignated glucagon. A school may maintain a 8 supply of glucagon in any secure location that is immediately 9 accessible to a school nurse or a delegated care aide; 10 however, a school shall maintain a supply of glucagon in any 11 secure location that is immediately accessible to a school 12 nurse or a delegated care aide if a student diagnosed with 13 diabetes attends the school. Schools shall obtain a 14 prescription for glucagon, even if the school is not required 15 to maintain the glucagon. A physician, a physician assistant 16 who has prescriptive authority under Section 7.5 of the 17 Physician Assistant Practice Act of 1987, or an advanced 18 practice registered nurse who has prescriptive authority under 19 Section 65-40 of the Nurse Practice Act may prescribe 20 undesignated glucagon in the name of the school to be 21 maintained for use when necessary. Any supply of undesignated 22 glucagon must be maintained in accordance with the 23 manufacturer's instructions.
