1 AN ACT concerning transportation.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5 Section 3-699.23 as follows:
6 (625 ILCS 5/3-699.23 new)
7 Sec. 3-699.23. Sons of the American Legion plates.
8 (a) In addition to any other special license plate, the
9 Secretary, upon receipt of all applicable fees and
10 applications made in the form prescribed by the Secretary, may
11 issue Sons of the American Legion plates to residents of
12 Illinois who meet eligibility requirements prescribed by the
13 Secretary. The special plate issued under this Section shall
14 be affixed only to passenger vehicles of the first division,
15 motorcycles, and motor vehicles of the second division
16 weighing not more than 8,000 pounds. Plates issued under this
17 Section shall expire according to the staggered multi-year
18 procedure established by Section 3-414.1 of this Code.
19 (b) The plates shall display the Sons of the American
20 Legion logo. In all other respects, the design, color, and
21 format of the plates shall be within the discretion of the
22 Secretary. The Secretary may, in his or her discretion, allow
23 the plates to be issued as vanity plates or personalized
