| 4 | 4 | | 2 WHEREAS, It is fitting to honor those who have given their |

| 6 | 6 | | 4 WHEREAS, From a young age, Officer Brian Pierce Jr. looked |

| 7 | 7 | | 5 to serve his community, including with the Raymond/Harvel Fire |

| 8 | 8 | | 6 Explorer program, the ISP Junior Police Academy, the Christian |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | 7 County Drug and Alcohol Task Force, and the Elkville Fire |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | 8 Department; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | 9 WHEREAS, After graduating from Elkville High School, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | 10 Officer Pierce became the trainer and treasurer of the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | 11 Elkville Fire Department as well as a correctional officer |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | 12 with the Menard Correctional Facility; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | 13 WHEREAS, In 2017, Officer Pierce moved to Makanda, where |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | 14 he joined the Makanda Township Fire Department; while there, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | 15 he spent every Monday night training younger firefighters; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | 16 WHEREAS, In 2019, Officer Pierce assisted the mayor of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | 17 Spillertown in constructing a police department that had not |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | 18 existed for ten years, which included assisting in applying |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | 19 for funding and grants and helping with day to day operations; |
|---|

| 38 | 38 | | 8 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL |

| 40 | 40 | | 10 REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the |

| 42 | 42 | | 12 Prosperity Road as it passes Spillertown as the "Officer Brian |

| 43 | 43 | | 13 Pierce Jr. Memorial Highway"; and be it further |

| 44 | 44 | | 14 RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation |

| 45 | 45 | | 15 is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with |

| 46 | 46 | | 16 State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs |

| 47 | 47 | | 17 giving notice of the name "Officer Brian Pierce Jr. Memorial |
