44 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
55 3 to learn of the death of Mother Elizabeth McDaniel of
66 4 Springfield, who passed away on April 3, 2023 at the age of
77 5 102; and
88 6 WHEREAS, Mother McDaniel was born in Harvey to Charles and
99 7 Nancy Wheeler on October 20, 1920; she graduated from high
1010 8 school and earned a certification in nursing from Lincoln Land
1111 9 Community College; and
1212 10 WHEREAS, Mother McDaniel spent most of her career as a
1313 11 licensed practical nurse, home nurse, social worker, and
1414 12 foster parent; and
1515 13 WHEREAS, Mother McDaniel strongly believed in her family,
1616 14 her career, her faith, and her community and was passionately
1717 15 active in each of them; some of her accomplishments and awards
1818 16 include two NAACP Awards and official proclamations from State
1919 17 Rep. Sue Scherer for her outstanding work and dedication to
2020 18 the children of the community; she also received an official
2121 19 proclamation and dedication by Mayor Langfelder naming,
2222 20 Sunday, October 18, 2020 "Mother Elizabeth McDaniel Day"; she
2323 21 was recently inducted into the 2023 Legacy Circle of the
2424 22 International Department Of The Church Of God In Christ; and

3333 1 WHEREAS, Mother McDaniel enjoyed knitting, watching golf,
3434 2 following the Chicago Bulls, and taking care of children; she
3535 3 had a green thumb for gardening; she loved her family and
3636 4 friends and instilled good values in her children and
3737 5 grandchildren that have served them well, but most of all, her
3838 6 greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and
3939 7 having an active role in their lives; she was a caring woman
4040 8 who spent most of her life thinking about others; she was an
4141 9 active foster grandparent, served the youth of the community,
4242 10 volunteered with the Red Cross and the disaster relief
4343 11 program, and was active in numerous bowling leagues; she
4444 12 always surrounded herself with her friends and family, which
4545 13 is where she felt most comfortable and loved; everyone who
4646 14 knew her experienced her big heart and giving nature; and
4747 15 WHEREAS, Mother McDaniel was member of Greater All Nation
4848 16 Tabernacle and was a member of the Super Senior Dance Team; and
4949 17 WHEREAS, Mother McDaniel was preceded in death by her
5050 18 parents; her husband, Leroy McDaniel; and her siblings,
5151 19 Howard, Richard, Rena, Dorothy, Mabel, June, Ada, Elene,
5252 20 William, Harry, John, and Charles Wheeler Jr.; and
5353 21 WHEREAS, Mother McDaniel is survived by her children,
5454 22 Charles Howard Caesar Sr. and Jeremiah Shaeffer; her

7373 9 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
7474 10 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7575 11 Mother Elizabeth McDaniel and extend our sincere condolences
7676 12 to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be
7777 13 it further
7878 14 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7979 15 presented to the family of Mother McDaniel as an expression of
8080 16 our deepest sympathy.
