1  SENATE RESOLUTION
2  WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3  to learn of the death of Mother Elizabeth McDaniel of
4  Springfield, who passed away on April 3, 2023 at the age of
5  102; and
6  WHEREAS, Mother McDaniel was born in Harvey to Charles and
7  Nancy Wheeler on October 20, 1920; she graduated from high
8  school and earned a certification in nursing from Lincoln Land
9  Community College; and
10  WHEREAS, Mother McDaniel spent most of her career as a
11  licensed practical nurse, home nurse, social worker, and
12  foster parent; and
13  WHEREAS, Mother McDaniel strongly believed in her family,
14  her career, her faith, and her community and was passionately
15  active in each of them; some of her accomplishments and awards
16  include two NAACP Awards and official proclamations from State
17  Rep. Sue Scherer for her outstanding work and dedication to
18  the children of the community; she also received an official
19  proclamation and dedication by Mayor Langfelder naming,
20  Sunday, October 18, 2020 "Mother Elizabeth McDaniel Day"; she
21  was recently inducted into the 2023 Legacy Circle of the
22  International Department Of The Church Of God In Christ; and

1  WHEREAS, Mother McDaniel enjoyed knitting, watching golf,
2  following the Chicago Bulls, and taking care of children; she
3  had a green thumb for gardening; she loved her family and
4  friends and instilled good values in her children and
5  grandchildren that have served them well, but most of all, her
6  greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and
7  having an active role in their lives; she was a caring woman
8  who spent most of her life thinking about others; she was an
9  active foster grandparent, served the youth of the community,
10  volunteered with the Red Cross and the disaster relief
11  program, and was active in numerous bowling leagues; she
12  always surrounded herself with her friends and family, which
13  is where she felt most comfortable and loved; everyone who
14  knew her experienced her big heart and giving nature; and
15  WHEREAS, Mother McDaniel was member of Greater All Nation
16  Tabernacle and was a member of the Super Senior Dance Team; and
17  WHEREAS, Mother McDaniel was preceded in death by her
18  parents; her husband, Leroy McDaniel; and her siblings,
19  Howard, Richard, Rena, Dorothy, Mabel, June, Ada, Elene,
20  William, Harry, John, and Charles Wheeler Jr.; and
21  WHEREAS, Mother McDaniel is survived by her children,
22  Charles Howard Caesar Sr. and Jeremiah Shaeffer; her

1  Goddaughter, Sheila Wills; her grandchildren, Charles H.
2  Caesar Jr., Dewayne Caesar, and Dohnell Caesar; her
3  granddaughter, Chaquita (Deandrea) Wiley and Charles Caesar
4  III; her great-great-grandchildren, Christcheon Taylor Jr. and
5  Ava Joy E. Wiley; her nieces and nephews, Sheryl Wheeler, Tina
6  Lathan, Barbara and Donna Jackson, Ronny Curry, Clifford
7  Gatewood, and Richard Wheeler Jr., and numerous other family
8  and friends; therefore, be it
9  RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
10  ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11  Mother Elizabeth McDaniel and extend our sincere condolences
12  to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be
13  it further
14  RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15  presented to the family of Mother McDaniel as an expression of
16  our deepest sympathy.
