| 5 | 5 | | 3 to learn of the death of Maurice E. "Jack" Flaherty of rural |

| 6 | 6 | | 4 Alexis, who passed away at June 3, 2023; and |

| 7 | 7 | | 5 WHEREAS, Jack Flaherty was born to Arthur Joseph and Nora |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | 6 Marie (Bride) Flaherty in Galesburg, Florida on June 21, 1924; |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | 7 he was raised and educated in rural Alexis, Illinois; he |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | 8 graduated from Alexis High School in 1942; he served in the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | 9 U.S. Army during World War II; he married Helen A. Pease in |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | 10 Carthage on December 1, 1950; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | 11 WHEREAS, Jack Flaherty farmed his entire life on the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | 12 family farm just south of Alexis, retiring in the mid-1970s; |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | 13 he also worked as an overhead crane operator at the Rock Island |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | 14 Arsenal and as a foreman for the Illinois Department of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | 15 Transportation Alexis Crew; he later served as road |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | 16 commissioner of the Kelly Township for seven years; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | 17 WHEREAS, Jack Flaherty was a member of St. Theresa's |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | 18 Catholic Church in Alexis, the Galesburg Elks Club, the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | 19 Monmouth American Legion, the Monmouth VFW, and the Warren |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | 20 County Democrats, where he served as chairman for several |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | 21 years; and |
