"Jack" Flaherty of rural 4 Alexis, who passed away at June 3, 2023; and 5 WHEREAS, Jack Flaherty was born to Arthur Joseph and Nora 6 Marie (Bride) Flaherty in Galesburg, Florida on June 21, 1924; 7 he was raised and educated in rural Alexis, Illinois; he 8 graduated from Alexis High School in 1942; he served in the 9 U.S. Army during World War II; he married Helen A. Pease in 10 Carthage on December 1, 1950; and 11 WHEREAS, Jack Flaherty farmed his entire life on the 12 family farm just south of Alexis, retiring in the mid-1970s; 13 he also worked as an overhead crane operator at the Rock Island 14 Arsenal and as a foreman for the Illinois Department of 15 Transportation Alexis Crew; he later served as road 16 commissioner of the Kelly Township for seven years; and 17 WHEREAS, Jack Flaherty was a member of St. Theresa's 18 Catholic Church in Alexis, the Galesburg Elks Club, the 19 Monmouth American Legion, the Monmouth VFW, and the Warren 20 County Democrats, where he served as chairman for several 21 years; and SR0354 LRB103 32783 MST 62587 r SR0354- 2 -LRB103 32783 MST 62587 r SR0354 - 2 - LRB103 32783 MST 62587 r SR0354 - 2 - LRB103 32783 MST 62587 r 1 WHEREAS, Jack Flaherty was preceded in death by his wife, 2 Helen; his parents; his brother, Daniel Flaherty; his 3 daughter, Beverly Peterson; his son, Scott Saunders; and his 4 grandchildren, Jerry Peterson, Gary Saunders, William 5 Flaherty, Erica Flaherty, and Ryan Bird; and 6 WHEREAS, Jack Flaherty is survived by his sons, Daniel 7 (Melinda) Flaherty and Pat (Cindy) Flaherty; his 8 grandchildren, Ricky Peterson, Joyce (Scott McCurikan) 9 Peterson, Debbie Peterson, Chris (Tami) Saunders, Mike 10 (Teresa) Saunders, Jeremy (Jennifer) Flaherty, Jacque 11 (Matthews) Schweighart, and Trevor Bird; and numerous 12 great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; therefore, 13 be it 14 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL 15 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 16 Maurice E. "Jack" Flaherty and extend our sincere condolences 17 to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be 18 it further 19 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 20 presented to the family of Jack Flaherty as an expression of 21 our deepest sympathy.
