1  SENATE RESOLUTION
2  WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3  to learn of the death of Merriam "Lee" Gustafson of Moline, who
4  passed away on August 22, 2023; and
5  WHEREAS, Lee Gustafson was born to Clarence Bernhard and
6  Mabel Ann (Hanson) Gustafson in Minneapolis, Minnesota on
7  January 16, 1927; he graduated from Dawson High School and the
8  University of Minnesota, receiving a degree in agricultural
9  engineering; he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II
10  from 1945 to 1946; he married Inez Kathleen Reiff in
11  Minneapolis on December 1, 1951; and
12  WHEREAS, Lee Gustafson worked as an engineer at John
13  Deere; and
14  WHEREAS, Lee Gustafson was involved in Christian
15  education, and he was an avid participant in the Full Gospel
16  Business Men's Fellowship and a member of Toastmasters and the
17  Christian Service Brigade; he enjoyed photography as a hobby,
18  and he loved traveling and researching his Swedish genealogy;
19  and
20  WHEREAS, Lee Gustafson was preceded in death by his
21  parents; his daughter, Sandra Ellen Gustafson; his brother,

1  David; and his sister-in-law, Harriett; and
2  WHEREAS, Lee Gustafson is survived by his wife of 71
3  years, Inez; his children, Sheryl (Dorman) Martin Brampton,
4  Steven (Marites) Gustafson, Alan (Jana) Gustafson, Kathleen
5  Gauwitz, and Gregory (Sheila) Gustafson; eight grandchildren;
6  eight great-grandchildren; and his brother, Roger (Bonnie)
7  Gustafson; therefore, be it
8  RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
9  ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10  Merriam "Lee" Gustafson and extend our sincere condolences to
11  his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12  further
13  RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14  presented to the family of Lee Gustafson as an expression of
15  our deepest sympathy.
