1111 1 AN ACT concerning government.
1212 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
1313 3 represented in the General Assembly:
1414 4 Section 5. The Illinois Police Training Act is amended by
1515 5 changing Section 10.6 as follows:

1717 7 Sec. 10.6. Mandatory training to be completed every 2 3
1818 8 years.
1919 9 (a) The Board shall adopt rules and minimum standards for
2020 10 mandatory in-service training requirements as set forth in
2121 11 this Section, which must be completed every 2 years. The
2222 12 training shall provide officers with knowledge of policies and
2323 13 laws regulating the use of force; equip officers with tactics
2424 14 and skills, including de-escalation techniques, to prevent or
2525 15 reduce the need to use force or, when force must be used, to
2626 16 use force that is objectively reasonable, necessary, and
2727 17 proportional under the totality of the circumstances; and
2828 18 ensure appropriate supervision and accountability. The
2929 19 training shall include at least 30 hours of training,
3030 20 including:
3131 21 (1) At least 12 hours of hands-on, scenario-based
3232 22 role-playing.
3333 23 (2) At least 6 hours of instruction on use of force
