11	11	1 AN ACT concerning public employee benefits.
12	12	2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
13	13	3 represented in the General Assembly:
14	14	4 Section 5. The Illinois Pension Code is amended by
15	15	5 changing Section 15-148 as follows:
16	16	6 (40 ILCS 5/15-148) (from Ch. 108 1/2, par. 15-148)
17	17	7 Sec. 15-148. Survivors insurance benefits; general
18	18	8 benefits - General provisions. The survivors annuity is
19	19	9 payable monthly. Any annuity due but unpaid upon the death of
20	20	10 the annuitant, shall be paid to the annuitant's estate.
21	21	11 A person who becomes entitled to more than one survivors
22	22	12 insurance benefit because of the death of 2 or more persons
23	23	13 shall receive only the largest of the benefits; except that
24	24	14 this limitation does not apply to a survivors insurance
25	25	15 beneficiary who is entitled to a survivor's annuity by reason
26	26	16 of a mental or physical disability.
27	27	17 A survivors insurance beneficiary or the personal
28	28	18 representative of the estate of a deceased survivors insurance
29	29	19 beneficiary or the personal representative of a survivors
30	30	20 insurance beneficiary who is under a legal disability may
31	31	21 waive the right to receive survivorship benefits, provided
32	32	22 written notice of the waiver is given by the beneficiary or
33	33	23 representative to the board within 6 months after the System
