4	4	2 WHEREAS, The Illinois General Assembly recognizes the
5	5	3 importance of Route 66 as a cultural and historical asset and
6	6	4 wishes to honor its centennial milestone and to celebrate its
7	7	5 impact on transportation, tourism, and the American spirit;
8	8	6 and
9	9	7 WHEREAS, Route 66, known as the "Main Street of America"
10	10	8 or as the "Mother Road", has played a significant role in the
11	11	9 history and development of the United States, connecting
12	12	10 Chicago, Illinois, to Santa Monica, California and serving as
13	13	11 a vital transportation corridor since its establishment in
14	14	12 1926; and
15	15	13 WHEREAS, The year 2026 marks the 100th anniversary of
16	16	14 Route 66, a roadway that has become an enduring symbol of
17	17	15 adventure, freedom, and economic opportunity and that has
18	18	16 contributed to the culture and identity of Illinois and the
19	19	17 nation as a whole; and
20	20	18 WHEREAS, Illinois holds a unique place in the history of
21	21	19 Route 66 as it was the first state to pave the highway in its
22	22	20 entirety and serves as the starting point of this legendary
23	23	21 route in downtown Chicago; Route 66 passes through numerous
24	24	22 communities and landscapes that have left a lasting imprint on

34	34	2 WHEREAS, Route 66 in Illinois has supported small
35	35	3 businesses, diners, motels, and roadside attractions,
36	36	4 fostering economic growth and tourism while preserving the
37	37	5 rich history of the communities along its path from Chicago to
38	38	6 the Mississippi River; and
39	39	7 WHEREAS, During the Prohibition era, Route 66 was often
40	40	8 used as a corridor for transporting illicit goods, and during
41	41	9 the Great Depression, it became a critical path for displaced
42	42	10 families seeking new opportunities in the West; and
43	43	11 WHEREAS, Route 66 has been immortalized in American
44	44	12 culture through various works of art, including literature,
45	45	13 film, and music such as John Steinbeck's novel "The Grapes of
46	46	14 Wrath", the popular song "(Get Your Kicks on) Route 66", and
47	47	15 numerous Hollywood films that have celebrated its legacy; and
48	48	16 WHEREAS, The preservation and commemoration of Route 66's
49	49	17 legacy have been championed by local organizations,
50	50	18 historians, and enthusiasts who continue to promote awareness
51	51	19 and appreciation of its historical significance; therefore, be
