4	4	2 WHEREAS, The Battle of Midway is widely considered one of
5	5	3 the most significant naval battles in the Pacific Theater of
6	6	4 World War II, taking place from June 4, 1942 to June 7, 1942,
7	7	5 only six months after the attack on Pearl Harbor; Midway
8	8	6 Island is located in the Pacific Ocean almost directly between
9	9	7 the United States and Japan, making it a key target in the war;
10	10	8 and
11	11	9 WHEREAS, The U.S. Navy's victory in the battle, and
12	12	10 subsequent defense of the major base on Midway Island,
13	13	11 effectively turned the tides of World War II in the Pacific; as
14	14	12 a result of the U.S. victory, Japan abandoned its plan to
15	15	13 expand its reach in the Pacific and remained on the defensive
16	16	14 for the remainder of World War II; and
17	17	15 WHEREAS, In 1949, the Chicago Municipal Airport was
18	18	16 renamed Midway in honor of the hard fought Battle of Midway;
19	19	17 and
20	20	18 WHEREAS, June 2025 marks the 83rd anniversary of the
21	21	19 Battle of Midway; therefore, be it
22	22	20 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
23	23	21 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare June 7, 2025
