Elston Jr., who passed away 4 on December 29, 2024; and 5 WHEREAS, Jesse Elston was born in Chicago to Jesse and 6 Corrine Elston on August 1, 1946; while young, he was a member 7 of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Chicago and attended Forestville 8 Elementary School; he graduated from Dunbar High School in 9 Chicago; he served in the United States Navy and received an 10 Honorable Discharge on January 10, 1969; he married Cassandra 11 Ward Holbert in August 2018; and 12 WHEREAS, Jesse Elston worked at the Calumet City Library; 13 and 14 WHEREAS, Jesse Elston was a devoted and loving husband, 15 father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend; he loved his 16 family, his work and church families, and all the Calumet City 17 and Thornton Township community; he enjoyed bid whist, 18 watching football, traveling whenever possible, and barbequing 19 with his bottle of Hennessy VSOP Privilege Cognac and a can of 20 Miller's next to him; and 21 WHEREAS, Jesse Elston's love for others drove him to SR0015 LRB104 07512 MST 17556 r SR0015- 2 -LRB104 07512 MST 17556 r SR0015 - 2 - LRB104 07512 MST 17556 r SR0015 - 2 - LRB104 07512 MST 17556 r 1 always be there, whether volunteering for neighborhood or 2 political events or delivering flowers and balloons on 3 Valentine Day to the women at his job and throughout other 4 areas of Calumet City; and 5 WHEREAS, Jesse Elston was preceded in death by his 6 parents; and 7 WHEREAS, Jesse Elston is survived by his wife, Cassandra 8 Elston; his sister, Jacqueline Rivera; his stepdaughter, 9 Yolanda Charis Holbert; his daughters, Ericka (Terrell) 10 Jackso, Jasmyne Frowner, Kellie Avery, Ericka Abraham, and 11 Kaneesha Grooms; his sons, Roderick Elston, Marquette Elston, 12 and Anthony Calloway; and numerous extended family members, 13 friends, and community; therefore, be it 14 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL 15 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 16 Jesse I.
