7 | 7 | | 5 WHEREAS, Charlester Crockett was born to Miles McGee and |

8 | 8 | | 6 Lannie Mae Kendrick in Chicago on August 19, 1930; she was |

9 | 9 | | 7 raised in the historic Bronzeville neighborhood on Chicago's |
---|
10 | 10 | | 8 South Side; she graduated from Forrestville Elementary School |

11 | 11 | | 9 in 1944 and DuSable High School in 1948; she married Robert E. |
---|
12 | 12 | | 10 Crockett Jr. in Chicago in September 1950; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | 11 WHEREAS, Charlester Crockett worked at Nabisco early in |
---|
14 | 14 | | 12 her marriage before deciding to leave to raise her growing |
---|
15 | 15 | | 13 family; she took great pride in the meticulous maintenance of |
---|
16 | 16 | | 14 her home and lovingly prepared meals, which included homemade |
---|
17 | 17 | | 15 breads, cakes, and pies, all made-from-scratch, and she even |
---|
18 | 18 | | 16 sewed clothing for her children; she also had exceptional |
---|
19 | 19 | | 17 budgeting skills and maximized her family's financial |
---|
20 | 20 | | 18 resources; and |

21 | 21 | | 19 WHEREAS, Charlester Crockett was deeply committed to her |

22 | 22 | | 20 faith, beginning each day in private prayer and Bible study, |
---|
23 | 23 | | 21 and she took courses at Moody Bible Institute; as a pastor's |
---|
24 | 24 | | 22 wife, she served in the various churches her husband founded |

43 | 43 | | 11 a firm advocate in exercising her right to vote, encouraging |

44 | 44 | | 12 all to participate in the election process; she was |
---|
45 | 45 | | 13 knowledgeable about her family roots, and she visited her |
---|
46 | 46 | | 14 paternal ancestral birthplace, Magnolia, Mississippi, to pay |
---|
47 | 47 | | 15 respects to her late aunts and uncles; she had an exceptional |
---|
48 | 48 | | 16 eye for detail and organization, and she preserved artifacts |
---|
49 | 49 | | 17 that highlighted momentous occasions and kept original |
---|
50 | 50 | | 18 keepsakes; and |

51 | 51 | | 19 WHEREAS, Charlester Crockett was passionate about healthy |

52 | 52 | | 20 living practices, including diet, exercise, and nutrition, and |

54 | 54 | | 22 she served as a clerk at Weight Watchers, where she made |

55 | 55 | | 23 lifelong friends; she was an avid reader, and her library |
