44 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
55 3 to learn of the death of Charlester Crockett, who passed away
66 4 on January 20, 2025; and
77 5 WHEREAS, Charlester Crockett was born to Miles McGee and
88 6 Lannie Mae Kendrick in Chicago on August 19, 1930; she was
99 7 raised in the historic Bronzeville neighborhood on Chicago's
1010 8 South Side; she graduated from Forrestville Elementary School
1111 9 in 1944 and DuSable High School in 1948; she married Robert E.
1212 10 Crockett Jr. in Chicago in September 1950; and
1313 11 WHEREAS, Charlester Crockett worked at Nabisco early in
1414 12 her marriage before deciding to leave to raise her growing
1515 13 family; she took great pride in the meticulous maintenance of
1616 14 her home and lovingly prepared meals, which included homemade
1717 15 breads, cakes, and pies, all made-from-scratch, and she even
1818 16 sewed clothing for her children; she also had exceptional
1919 17 budgeting skills and maximized her family's financial
2020 18 resources; and
2121 19 WHEREAS, Charlester Crockett was deeply committed to her
2222 20 faith, beginning each day in private prayer and Bible study,
2323 21 and she took courses at Moody Bible Institute; as a pastor's
2424 22 wife, she served in the various churches her husband founded

3333 1 throughout Chicagoland; she spoke on many platforms, including
3434 2 for the Conservative Baptist Home Missions Society (CBHMS) and
3535 3 the Chicagoland Christian Women's Conference; she taught
3636 4 Sunday school and hosted Bible clubs for children with Child
3737 5 Evangelism Fellowship; she served as a mentor to other young
3838 6 pastors' wives; she loved traveling with her husband to spread
3939 7 the Gospel of Jesus Christ, traveling abroad to India and many
4040 8 places within the United States, including Colorado, Oregon,
4141 9 and Puerto Rico, to do so; and
4242 10 WHEREAS, Charlester Crockett was politically oriented and
4343 11 a firm advocate in exercising her right to vote, encouraging
4444 12 all to participate in the election process; she was
4545 13 knowledgeable about her family roots, and she visited her
4646 14 paternal ancestral birthplace, Magnolia, Mississippi, to pay
4747 15 respects to her late aunts and uncles; she had an exceptional
4848 16 eye for detail and organization, and she preserved artifacts
4949 17 that highlighted momentous occasions and kept original
5050 18 keepsakes; and
5151 19 WHEREAS, Charlester Crockett was passionate about healthy
5252 20 living practices, including diet, exercise, and nutrition, and
5353 21 she freely shared information on such practices with others;
5454 22 she served as a clerk at Weight Watchers, where she made
5555 23 lifelong friends; she was an avid reader, and her library
5656 24 consisted of many books on holistic health; she loved fashion

6767 1 and especially enjoyed wearing hats; and
6868 2 WHEREAS, Charlester Crockett, affectionately known as
6969 3 "Charlie" by her husband, was a devoted mother, grandmother,
7070 4 and great-grandmother; and
7171 5 WHEREAS, Charlester Crockett was preceded in death by her
7272 6 husband, Robert, and her sons, Michael Crockett, Robert
7373 7 (Lashawn) Crockett III, and Steven Crockett; and
7474 8 WHEREAS, Charlester Crockett is survived by her daughters,
7575 9 Debra Crockett, Sharon Crockett, Robbie (Gregory) Randle,
7676 10 Stephanie (Derrick) Crockett-McLean, and Esther (Javar) Love;
7777 11 her son, Darryl Crockett; 16 grandchildren; 17
7878 12 great-grandchildren; her nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a
7979 13 host of other family members and friends; therefore, be it
8080 14 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
8181 15 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8282 16 Charlester Crockett and extend our sincere condolences to her
8383 17 family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
