4	4	2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
5	5	3 to learn of the death of Charlester Crockett, who passed away
6	6	4 on January 20, 2025; and
7	7	5 WHEREAS, Charlester Crockett was born to Miles McGee and
8	8	6 Lannie Mae Kendrick in Chicago on August 19, 1930; she was
9	9	7 raised in the historic Bronzeville neighborhood on Chicago's
10	10	8 South Side; she graduated from Forrestville Elementary School
11	11	9 in 1944 and DuSable High School in 1948; she married Robert E.
12	12	10 Crockett Jr. in Chicago in September 1950; and
13	13	11 WHEREAS, Charlester Crockett worked at Nabisco early in
14	14	12 her marriage before deciding to leave to raise her growing
15	15	13 family; she took great pride in the meticulous maintenance of
16	16	14 her home and lovingly prepared meals, which included homemade
17	17	15 breads, cakes, and pies, all made-from-scratch, and she even
18	18	16 sewed clothing for her children; she also had exceptional
19	19	17 budgeting skills and maximized her family's financial
20	20	18 resources; and
21	21	19 WHEREAS, Charlester Crockett was deeply committed to her
22	22	20 faith, beginning each day in private prayer and Bible study,
23	23	21 and she took courses at Moody Bible Institute; as a pastor's
24	24	22 wife, she served in the various churches her husband founded

33	33	1 throughout Chicagoland; she spoke on many platforms, including
34	34	2 for the Conservative Baptist Home Missions Society (CBHMS) and
35	35	3 the Chicagoland Christian Women's Conference; she taught
36	36	4 Sunday school and hosted Bible clubs for children with Child
37	37	5 Evangelism Fellowship; she served as a mentor to other young
38	38	6 pastors' wives; she loved traveling with her husband to spread
39	39	7 the Gospel of Jesus Christ, traveling abroad to India and many
40	40	8 places within the United States, including Colorado, Oregon,
41	41	9 and Puerto Rico, to do so; and
42	42	10 WHEREAS, Charlester Crockett was politically oriented and
43	43	11 a firm advocate in exercising her right to vote, encouraging
44	44	12 all to participate in the election process; she was
45	45	13 knowledgeable about her family roots, and she visited her
46	46	14 paternal ancestral birthplace, Magnolia, Mississippi, to pay
47	47	15 respects to her late aunts and uncles; she had an exceptional
48	48	16 eye for detail and organization, and she preserved artifacts
49	49	17 that highlighted momentous occasions and kept original
50	50	18 keepsakes; and
51	51	19 WHEREAS, Charlester Crockett was passionate about healthy
52	52	20 living practices, including diet, exercise, and nutrition, and
53	53	21 she freely shared information on such practices with others;
54	54	22 she served as a clerk at Weight Watchers, where she made
55	55	23 lifelong friends; she was an avid reader, and her library
56	56	24 consisted of many books on holistic health; she loved fashion

68	68	2 WHEREAS, Charlester Crockett, affectionately known as
69	69	3 "Charlie" by her husband, was a devoted mother, grandmother,
70	70	4 and great-grandmother; and
71	71	5 WHEREAS, Charlester Crockett was preceded in death by her
72	72	6 husband, Robert, and her sons, Michael Crockett, Robert
73	73	7 (Lashawn) Crockett III, and Steven Crockett; and
74	74	8 WHEREAS, Charlester Crockett is survived by her daughters,
75	75	9 Debra Crockett, Sharon Crockett, Robbie (Gregory) Randle,
76	76	10 Stephanie (Derrick) Crockett-McLean, and Esther (Javar) Love;
77	77	11 her son, Darryl Crockett; 16 grandchildren; 17
78	78	12 great-grandchildren; her nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a
79	79	13 host of other family members and friends; therefore, be it
80	80	14 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
81	81	15 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
82	82	16 Charlester Crockett and extend our sincere condolences to her
83	83	17 family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
