44 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
55 3 to learn of the death of Samuel H. "Sam" Porter of Ipava, who
66 4 passed away on January 17, 2025; and
77 5 WHEREAS, Sam Porter was born in Macomb to Paul and Lela
88 6 (Howell) Porter on September 21, 1934; he served in the U.S.
99 7 Navy during the Korean War from 1952 to 1955; he married Linda
1010 8 Tyler in Ipava on October 14, 1956; and
1111 9 WHEREAS, Sam Porter was a lifelong row crop farmer,
1212 10 cattleman, and inventor; and
1313 11 WHEREAS, Sam Porter was a member of the Ipava Presbyterian
1414 12 Church for 78 years; he was also a member of the Ipava Fire
1515 13 Department, Ipava American Legion Post #17, the V.I.T. School
1616 14 Board, and the Fulton County Farm Bureau; and
1717 15 WHEREAS, Sam Porter stayed busy with work and community
1818 16 involvement, but he also took time to enjoy the small things in
1919 17 life; he enjoyed playing cards, attending the Fulton County
2020 18 Fair, and being the target of his best buddy Durg's practical
2121 19 jokes; he and his wife enjoyed attending their grandchildren's
2222 20 activities, including livestock shows and sporting events,
2323 21 often attending multiple events in one day; they enjoyed

3434 3 WHEREAS, Sam Porter was preceded in death by his parents;
3535 4 his siblings, Bill Porter, Kathryn Miller, and Mary Keefauver;
3636 5 his daughter, Christie Kaye Porter; and his sister-in-law,
3737 6 Janette Porter; and
3838 7 WHEREAS, Sam Porter is survived by his wife, Linda; his
3939 8 children, Craig (Cindy) Porter, Brian (Lonna) Porter, and
4040 9 Brenda (Dave) Crouse; his grandchildren, Katrina (Brian)
4141 10 Hartsock, Derek (Nicole) Porter, Levi (Abby) Porter, Kristen
4242 11 (Mike) Peters, Laci (Ryan) Hildebrand, Clay (Kelsey) Crouse,
4343 12 and Kylie (Seth) Kessler; his great-grandchildren, Ava
4444 13 Hartsock, Evan Hartsock, Leah Porter, Mya Porter, Fulton
4545 14 Peters, Rhett Peters, Lainey Peters, and Crew Kessler; his
4646 15 sister-in-law, Nancy Porter; and his brothers-in-law, Norm
4747 16 Miller and Don Keefauver; therefore, be it
4848 17 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
4949 18 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
5050 19 Samuel H. "Sam" Porter and extend our sincere condolences to
5151 20 his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
