4	4	2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
5	5	3 to learn of the death of Samuel H. "Sam" Porter of Ipava, who
6	6	4 passed away on January 17, 2025; and
7	7	5 WHEREAS, Sam Porter was born in Macomb to Paul and Lela
8	8	6 (Howell) Porter on September 21, 1934; he served in the U.S.
9	9	7 Navy during the Korean War from 1952 to 1955; he married Linda
10	10	8 Tyler in Ipava on October 14, 1956; and
11	11	9 WHEREAS, Sam Porter was a lifelong row crop farmer,
12	12	10 cattleman, and inventor; and
13	13	11 WHEREAS, Sam Porter was a member of the Ipava Presbyterian
14	14	12 Church for 78 years; he was also a member of the Ipava Fire
15	15	13 Department, Ipava American Legion Post #17, the V.I.T. School
16	16	14 Board, and the Fulton County Farm Bureau; and
17	17	15 WHEREAS, Sam Porter stayed busy with work and community
18	18	16 involvement, but he also took time to enjoy the small things in
19	19	17 life; he enjoyed playing cards, attending the Fulton County
20	20	18 Fair, and being the target of his best buddy Durg's practical
21	21	19 jokes; he and his wife enjoyed attending their grandchildren's
22	22	20 activities, including livestock shows and sporting events,
23	23	21 often attending multiple events in one day; they enjoyed

33	33	2 crew to Branson, Missouri; and
34	34	3 WHEREAS, Sam Porter was preceded in death by his parents;
35	35	4 his siblings, Bill Porter, Kathryn Miller, and Mary Keefauver;
36	36	5 his daughter, Christie Kaye Porter; and his sister-in-law,
37	37	6 Janette Porter; and
38	38	7 WHEREAS, Sam Porter is survived by his wife, Linda; his
39	39	8 children, Craig (Cindy) Porter, Brian (Lonna) Porter, and
40	40	9 Brenda (Dave) Crouse; his grandchildren, Katrina (Brian)
41	41	10 Hartsock, Derek (Nicole) Porter, Levi (Abby) Porter, Kristen
42	42	11 (Mike) Peters, Laci (Ryan) Hildebrand, Clay (Kelsey) Crouse,
43	43	12 and Kylie (Seth) Kessler; his great-grandchildren, Ava
44	44	13 Hartsock, Evan Hartsock, Leah Porter, Mya Porter, Fulton
45	45	14 Peters, Rhett Peters, Lainey Peters, and Crew Kessler; his
46	46	15 sister-in-law, Nancy Porter; and his brothers-in-law, Norm
47	47	16 Miller and Don Keefauver; therefore, be it
48	48	17 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
49	49	18 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
50	50	19 Samuel H. "Sam" Porter and extend our sincere condolences to
51	51	20 his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
