44 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
55 3 to learn of the death of Milena A. McConchie of Hawthorn Woods,
66 4 who passed away on February 21, 2025; and
77 5 WHEREAS, Milena McConchie was born on June 24, 1973; she
88 6 was raised in Varna, Bulgaria, and she lived through the
99 7 collapse of Communism in 1990 when she was 16 years old; she
1010 8 subsequently attended America University in Bulgaria, where
1111 9 she excelled; and
1212 10 WHEREAS, During her collegiate tenure, Milena McConchie
1313 11 went on a summer program on free market economics offered by
1414 12 The Fund for American Studies in Prague, Czech Republic; while
1515 13 there, she met her future husband, Dan McConchie, and they
1616 14 were engaged six months later; shortly thereafter, she was
1717 15 diagnosed with cancer linked to the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear
1818 16 disaster; despite this, she and Dan remained committed to
1919 17 their relationship and were married during the middle of her
2020 18 cancer treatment; and
2121 19 WHEREAS, Milena McConchie and Dan both became accomplished
2222 20 professionals and had two wonderful daughters; as her husband
2323 21 pursued his dreams and became an state senator for Illinois,
2424 22 she encouraged his career aspirations by always sending him to

3434 2 expressing that it was her form of participating; and
3535 3 WHEREAS, Milena McConchie, even while undergoing immense
3636 4 suffering due to the cancer, radiation, and chemotherapy
3737 5 treatments, rarely showed how much they pained her; and
3838 6 WHEREAS, Milena McConchie will be remembered as a lover of
3939 7 freedom, a devoted follower of her faith, and a woman of
4040 8 considerable strength; and
4141 9 WHEREAS, Milena McConchie is survived by her husband,
4242 10 retired Illinois State Senator Dan McConchie, and her
4343 11 daughters, Sophia and Kristina; therefore, be it
4444 12 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
4545 13 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
4646 14 Milena A. McConchie and extend our sincere condolences to her
4747 15 family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
4848 16 further
4949 17 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5050 18 presented to the family of Milena McConchie as an expression
5151 19 of our deepest sympathy.
