1  SENATE RESOLUTION
2  WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3  to learn of the death of Milena A. McConchie of Hawthorn Woods,
4  who passed away on February 21, 2025; and
5  WHEREAS, Milena McConchie was born on June 24, 1973; she
6  was raised in Varna, Bulgaria, and she lived through the
7  collapse of Communism in 1990 when she was 16 years old; she
8  subsequently attended America University in Bulgaria, where
9  she excelled; and
10  WHEREAS, During her collegiate tenure, Milena McConchie
11  went on a summer program on free market economics offered by
12  The Fund for American Studies in Prague, Czech Republic; while
13  there, she met her future husband, Dan McConchie, and they
14  were engaged six months later; shortly thereafter, she was
15  diagnosed with cancer linked to the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear
16  disaster; despite this, she and Dan remained committed to
17  their relationship and were married during the middle of her
18  cancer treatment; and
19  WHEREAS, Milena McConchie and Dan both became accomplished
20  professionals and had two wonderful daughters; as her husband
21  pursued his dreams and became an state senator for Illinois,
22  she encouraged his career aspirations by always sending him to

1  work with containers of homemade food for his lunches,
2  expressing that it was her form of participating; and
3  WHEREAS, Milena McConchie, even while undergoing immense
4  suffering due to the cancer, radiation, and chemotherapy
5  treatments, rarely showed how much they pained her; and
6  WHEREAS, Milena McConchie will be remembered as a lover of
7  freedom, a devoted follower of her faith, and a woman of
8  considerable strength; and
9  WHEREAS, Milena McConchie is survived by her husband,
10  retired Illinois State Senator Dan McConchie, and her
11  daughters, Sophia and Kristina; therefore, be it
12  RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
13  ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14  Milena A. McConchie and extend our sincere condolences to her
15  family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
16  further
17  RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18  presented to the family of Milena McConchie as an expression
19  of our deepest sympathy.
