24 | 24 | | 9 the United States Army and put the needs of the nation first; |

25 | 25 | | 10 Whereas, Second Lieutenant Michael is the only Purdue |

26 | 26 | | 11 student or faculty member awarded the Congressional Medal |

27 | 27 | | 12 of Honor; |

28 | 28 | | 13 Whereas, Second Lieutenant Michael was killed in the line of |

29 | 29 | | 14 duty while serving in Company L, 3rd Battalion, 318th Infantry |

30 | 30 | | 15 Regiment, 80th Infantry Division during World War II; |

45 | 45 | | 5 movement on the enemy's position. Bitter fighting led to the |

46 | 46 | | 6 capture of 25 members of an SS mountain division, three |

47 | 47 | | 7 artillery pieces, and 20 horses; |

48 | 48 | | 8 Whereas, Second Lieutenant Michael fought bravely, making |
---|
49 | 49 | | 9 two personal reconnaissance missions of the woods on his left |

50 | 50 | | 10 flank, where he killed two, wounded four, and captured 13 |

51 | 51 | | 11 enemy soldiers before leading his platoon in a successful |
---|
52 | 52 | | 12 assault on a line of enemy pillboxes, capturing the objective, |

53 | 53 | | 13 killing 10 enemies and capturing 30 additional prisoners; |

67 | 67 | | 27 Indiana Department of Transportation to rename a portion of |

68 | 68 | | 28 U.S. Highway 231 from Lindberg Road to the intersection of |

69 | 69 | | 29 U.S. 52 and Sagamore Parkway West in West Lafayette, |
