1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing
2 Wednesday, February 16, 2022, as a day to honor the work and
3 mission of the regions of the American Red Cross serving the
4 state of Indiana.
5 Whereas, The mission of the American Red Cross is to
6 prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of
7 emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the
8 generosity of donors;
9 Whereas, The American Red Cross provides about 40% of the
10 nation's blood supply, facilitating the donation of blood to
11 those who need it, including accident and burn victims, heart
12 surgery and organ transplant patients, and those receiving
13 treatment for leukemia, cancer, or sickle cell disease;
14 Whereas, The nation is facing a critical blood shortage due
15 to a notable decline in blood donations since the pandemic
16 began;
17 Whereas, In these times of crisis and strife, the Red Cross is
18 dedicating all available resources to meet the blood needs of
19 hospitals and patients but cannot do it alone; and
20 Whereas, To overcome these immense challenges, the Red
21 Cross relies on Hoosiers to come together to support those in
22 greatest need: Therefore,
23 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives
24 of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,
25 the Senate concurring:

1 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly recognizes
2 Wednesday, February 16, 2022, as a day to honor the regions of
3 the American Red Cross serving the state of Indiana.
4 SECTION 2. That the Indiana General Assembly urges both
5 its members and constituents to give to the Red Cross in some
6 way, whether by signing up to volunteer in their communities,
7 contributing financially, or giving the heroic gift of a life-saving
8 blood donation.
