19 | 19 | | 7 Whereas, Prior to settlement and until as late as 1832, the |

20 | 20 | | 8 area that would become Montgomery County was initially |
---|
21 | 21 | | 9 inhabited by Native Americans known as Mound Builders; |

22 | 22 | | 10 Whereas, After first being settled by William Offield and his |

23 | 23 | | 11 family in 1821, Montgomery County has been home to a |

24 | 24 | | 12 number of notable residents to include Henry S. Lane, a |

53 | 53 | | 15 Whereas, Montgomery County is considered the "Cradle of |

54 | 54 | | 16 Basketball", as it is where the sport was first introduced to |

55 | 55 | | 17 Indiana in 1892, the home of the first Indiana High School |

56 | 56 | | 18 Athletic Association State Basketball Championship in 1911, |

57 | 57 | | 19 and the location for the filming of "Hoosiers" in 1985; |

58 | 58 | | 20 Whereas, December 21, 2022, will mark the official |

59 | 59 | | 21 bicentennial of Montgomery County; |

60 | 60 | | 22 Whereas, Throughout 2022, Montgomery County will |

61 | 61 | | 23 celebrate its bicentennial through special events, history, and |
---|
62 | 62 | | 24 community involvement; and |

63 | 63 | | 25 Whereas, It is fitting that the Montgomery County |

64 | 64 | | 26 Bicentennial be recognized: Therefore, |

65 | 65 | | 27 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly |
