2317 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION urging the Indiana
2418 2 Department of Transportation to rename the bridge on State
2519 3 Highway 27 over I-70 as the "Officer Seara Burton Memorial
2620 4 Bridge".
2721 5 Whereas, Officer Seara Burton was born on December 17,
2822 6 1993, in Richmond, Indiana, and was a life-long resident of the
2923 7 area;
3024 8 Whereas, Officer Burton graduated from Northeastern High
3125 9 School, and then attended both the Indiana Law Enforcement
3226 10 Academy and Vohne Liche Kennels;
3327 11 Whereas, Officer Burton not only served four years on the
3428 12 Richmond Police Department, but she also recently achieved
3529 13 her dream of becoming a K-9 handler;
3630 14 Whereas, Officer Burton was the victim of a gunshot wound
3731 15 to the head while in the line of duty on the evening of August
3832 16 10, 2022;
3933 17 Whereas, After a courageous battle for her life, Officer Seara
4034 18 Burton succumbed to her injury and died on September 18,
4135 19 2022; and
4236 20 Whereas, Officer Seara Burton #140/K9-2 dedicated her life
4337 21 to law enforcement and service to the Richmond community,
4438 22 ultimately losing her life as a direct result of a criminal act
4539 23 while serving in the line of duty. She has been laid to rest in
4640 24 Crown Hill Cemetery in the section dedicated to Heroes of
4741 25 Public Safety: Therefore,

4943 1 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives
5044 2 of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,
5145 3 the Senate concurring:
5246 4 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly urges the
5347 5 Indiana Department of Transportation to rename the bridge on
5448 6 State Highway 27 over I-70 as the "Officer Seara Burton
5549 7 Memorial Bridge" in honor of her service.
5650 8 SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
5751 9 Representatives shall transmit copies of this resolution to the
5852 10 Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Transportation.
