RESOLUTION No. 5
1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION urging the Indiana
2 Department of Transportation to rename the bridge on State
3 Highway 27 over I-70 as the "Officer Seara Burton Memorial
4 Bridge".
5 Whereas, Officer Seara Burton was born on December 17,
6 1993, in Richmond, Indiana, and was a life-long resident of the
7 area;
8 Whereas, Officer Burton graduated from Northeastern High
9 School, and then attended both the Indiana Law Enforcement
10 Academy and Vohne Liche Kennels;
11 Whereas, Officer Burton not only served four years on the
12 Richmond Police Department, but she also recently achieved
13 her dream of becoming a K-9 handler;
14 Whereas, Officer Burton was the victim of a gunshot wound
15 to the head while in the line of duty on the evening of August
16 10, 2022;
17 Whereas, After a courageous battle for her life, Officer Seara
18 Burton succumbed to her injury and died on September 18,
19 2022; and
20 Whereas, Officer Seara Burton #140/K9-2 dedicated her life
21 to law enforcement and service to the Richmond community,
22 ultimately losing her life as a direct result of a criminal act
23 while serving in the line of duty. She has been laid to rest in
24 Crown Hill Cemetery in the section dedicated to Heroes of
25 Public Safety: Therefore,

1 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives
2 of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,
3 the Senate concurring:
4 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly urges the
5 Indiana Department of Transportation to rename the bridge on
6 State Highway 27 over I-70 as the "Officer Seara Burton
7 Memorial Bridge" in honor of her service.
8 SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
9 Representatives shall transmit copies of this resolution to the
10 Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Transportation.

Mr. Speaker: Your Committee on Roads and Transportation, to
which was referred House Concurrent Resolution 5, has had the same
under consideration and begs leave to report the same back to the
House with the recommendation that said resolution do pass.
