18	18	1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION celebrating the
19	19	2 achievements and contributions of attorney, community leader,
20	20	3 and civil rights activist Fay H. Williams.
21	21	4 Whereas, Fay H. Williams is recognized as a community
22	22	5 leader who has worked tirelessly to better the lives of others,
23	23	6 especially women, minorities, the mentally ill, and those who
24	24	7 face disadvantages;
25	25	8 Whereas, Her work on behalf of others, starting from early
26	26	9 childhood, exemplifies what it means to live a life of service;
27	27	10 Whereas, She has used her formidable organizing and
28	28	11 fundraising skills to advance civil rights and equality in our
29	29	12 society;
30	30	13 Whereas, Fay's influence extends nationally, especially
31	31	14 through her work with the League of Women Voters, where as
32	32	15 chair of the Women's Education Fund, stretching back to the
33	33	16 1960s, she worked to educate and encourage women to seek
34	34	17 elected office;
35	35	18 Whereas, She has guided and strengthened many central
36	36	19 Indiana civic and cultural organizations through her service as
37	37	20 a board member, including as a founding board member of the
38	38	21 Indianapolis Urban League and Girls Inc.;
39	39	22 Whereas, She has also served the community through her
40	40	23 work as a family law attorney, which has had a profound effect
41	41	24 on people's lives;

43	43	1 Whereas, Fay has built and mobilized connections, networks,
44	44	2 and relationships across boundaries to effect change and to
45	45	3 bring people together to make a difference;
46	46	4 Whereas, Her advocacy of the Juneteenth emancipation
47	47	5 celebration, rising from her witness as a child in Galveston,
48	48	6 Texas, has educated many about the enduring meaning and
49	49	7 power of this event in our nation's history and the importance
50	50	8 of remembering it across generations;
51	51	9 Whereas, Her efforts to expand the commemoration of
52	52	10 Juneteenth have been untiring and have led to observance of
53	53	11 this key event in the Indianapolis area long before it was finally
54	54	12 recognized as a national holiday; and
55	55	13 Whereas, Those who have benefitted from Fay H. Williams'
56	56	14 wisdom and work continue to shape our community for the
57	57	15 better, creating a lasting legacy: Therefore,
58	58	16 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives
59	59	17 of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,
60	60	18 the Senate concurring:
61	61	19 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly celebrates
62	62	20 the accomplishments and legacy of Fay H. Williams and
63	63	21 expresses its deep appreciation for her distinguished service to
64	64	22 the community, her dedication to equal rights, her passion for
65	65	23 history and its impact, and her demonstration of true
66	66	24 community leadership.
67	67	25 SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
68	68	26 Representatives shall transmit a copy of this resolution to Fay
69	69	27 H. Williams.
