1717 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing former
1818 2 Indiana House of Representatives employee Brad Burk on his
1919 3 25th anniversary leading the American Cancer Society in
2020 4 Indiana.
2121 5 Whereas, The American Cancer Society has been in existence
2222 6 for 110 years with a mission of improving the lives of people
2323 7 with cancer and their families through advocacy, research, and
2424 8 patient support and to ensure everyone has an opportunity to
2525 9 prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer;
2626 10 Whereas, Cancer remains a preeminent health crisis, causing
2727 11 the death of over 13,000 Hoosiers, annually;
2828 12 Whereas, Brad Burk departed the Indiana House staff in 1998
2929 13 for a meaningful career at the American Cancer Society, where
3030 14 he has continually played a statewide leadership role
3131 15 advocating for public health interventions to save lives and
3232 16 improve Hoosier health;
3333 17 Whereas, Brad Burk has successfully worked alongside
3434 18 members of the Indiana General Assembly and the U.S.
3535 19 Congress to pass impactful legislation aimed at preventing,
3636 20 detecting, and treating cancer;
3737 21 Whereas, Over his 25-year tenure at ACS, Brad Burk has led
3838 22 fundraising efforts to secure over $150 million in the fight
3939 23 against cancer;
4040 24 Whereas, Over the past 25 years, the American Cancer
4141 25 Society has invested over $40 million in extramural cancer

4343 1 research in Indiana;
4444 2 Whereas, Due to advancements made in the fight against
4545 3 cancer, Indiana now celebrates 366,000 current living cancer
4646 4 survivors;
4747 5 Whereas, Throughout Brad Burk's tenure at ACS, cancer
4848 6 mortality rates have declined 1% each year for an overall
4949 7 decline of 25% since 1998;
5050 8 Whereas, Under Brad Burk's leadership, cancer information,
5151 9 resources, protections and innovations have been made
5252 10 available to Hoosiers in all 92 counties; and
5353 11 Whereas, Brad Burk should be commended by the Hoosier
5454 12 State for 25 years of devoted service to the people of Indiana.
5555 13 His dedication to preventing cancer, saving lives, and
5656 14 improving health outcomes and overall quality of life are noble
5757 15 and worthy of recognition: Therefore,
5858 16 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives
5959 17 of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,
6060 18 the Senate concurring:
6161 19 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly recognizes
6262 20 and celebrates Brad Burk's 25-year career anniversary with the
6363 21 American Cancer Society and highlights his profound statewide
6464 22 impact on the lives of all Hoosiers.
6565 23 SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
6666 24 Representatives shall transmit copies of this resolution to State
6767 25 Representative Donna Schaibley for distribution.
