Siegrist. 3 Whereas, Sally J. Siegrist was born on October 5, 1951, to 4 Jane Palmblade Siegrist and Daniel D. Siegrist in Lafayette, 5 Indiana; 6 Whereas, Sally J. Siegrist graduated from Jefferson High 20232744 HR 1520/DI 140 2023 2 1 School in 1969; 2 Whereas, She received a Bachelor of Arts from Indiana 3 University and a Masters of Business Administration from the 4 Krannert School of Business at Purdue University; 5 Whereas, An accomplished equestrian, Sally J. Siegrist won 6 the Indiana Quarter Horse Association Queen contest in1974, 7 which led to her representing Indiana at the All American 8 Quarter Horse Congress in Columbus, Ohio, the largest 9 quarter horse show in the country; 10 Whereas, She was crowned the Quarter Horse Congress 11 Queen, and she traveled the eastern United States continuing 12 her successful show career at major quarter horse show 13 circuits and state fair horse shows nationally; 14 Whereas, Sally J. Siegrist volunteered for local 15 organizations including Court Appointed Special Advocates, 16 Court Services Advisory Board, Riley Hospital for Children 17 Northwest Region Fundraising Board, Rotary Club of 18 Lafayette, Tippecanoe Arts Federation CPIC, and the Wabash 19 River Enhancement Corporation Board; 20 Whereas, Sally J. Siegrist was a member of the Tippecanoe 21 County Council from 2014 to 2016 and served as a State 22 Representative for District 26 in the 120th Indiana General 23 Assembly; 24 Whereas, During her tenure, all of the bills which she 25 authored were signed into law, including House Bills 1001 and 26 1004 in the 2018 legislative session; 27 Whereas, Addressing human trafficking was very important 28 to her, and she authored legislation, House Bill 1270, that was 29 signed into law to improve Indiana's laws on fighting and 30 preventing this criminal activity; 31 Whereas, Sally J. Siegrist served as a community liaison for 32 Congressman Jim Baird for two years from 2019 to 2020; 33 Whereas, Sally J. Siegrist was awarded Indiana's highest 20232744 HR 1520/DI 140 2023 3 1 honor, the Sagamore of the Wabash, from Governor Eric 2 Holcomb in April 2021; and 3 Whereas, Sally J. Siegrist passed away on May 1, 2022, and 4 will be missed by all of her former colleagues in the Indiana 5 General Assembly and her dedication and service to her 6 community and the State of Indiana will continue to be fondly 7 remembered by all: Therefore, 8 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the 9 General Assembly of the State of Indiana: 10 SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives 11 memorializes and celebrates the life of Representative Sally J. 12 Siegrist 13 SECTION 2.
