2828 A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning
2929 higher education.
3030 Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
3131 1 SECTION 1. IC 21-12-6-16 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE
3232 2 AS A NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY
3333 3 1, 2023]: Sec. 16. (a) As used in this section, "school" refers to a:
3434 4 (1) public school (as defined by IC 20-18-2-15);
3535 5 (2) charter school (as defined by IC 20-18-2-2.5); and
3636 6 (3) state accredited nonpublic school (as defined by
3737 7 IC 20-18-2-18.7).
3838 8 (b) Beginning with the 2023-2024 school year, the governing
3939 9 body, or the equivalent authority, of each school must notify each
4040 10 student who is enrolled at the school and their parents of the
4141 11 qualifications for and requirements of the program under this
4242 12 chapter.
4343 13 (c) The governing body, or the equivalent authority, of each
4444 14 school must provide the notice described in subsection (b) while the
4545 15 student is in grade 7 and grade 8.
