3030 A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning
3131 education.
3232 Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
3333 1 SECTION 1. IC 20-30-10-2.5, AS ADDED BY P.L.192-2018,
3434 2 SECTION 18, IS AMENDED TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE
3535 3 JULY 1, 2023]: Sec. 2.5. (a) Subject to subsection (b), in adopting
3636 4 Core 40 curriculum models under this chapter, the state board shall
3737 5 consider math course requirements other than Algebra II.
3838 6 (b) If a Core 40 curriculum model adopted by the state board
3939 7 includes Algebra II as a math course requirement for graduation
4040 8 with an Indiana diploma with a Core 40 designation described in
4141 9 IC 20-19-2-21(b)(2), the state board must amend the Core 40
4242 10 curriculum model to provide that a student satisfies the math
4343 11 course requirement by successfully completing either:
4444 12 (1) an Algebra II course; or
4545 13 (2) a personal finance course.
4646 14 (c) Any math course requirements adopted for the Core 40
4747 15 curriculum models must be at a level of difficulty that aligns with
4848 16 postsecondary preparation.
4949 17 (b) (d) If a school offers a math course developed under subsection

5151 1 (a) or a personal finance course described in subsection (b), a parent
5252 2 of a student and the student who intends to enroll in the course must
5353 3 provide consent to the school to enroll in the course. The consent form
5454 4 used by the school, which shall be developed by the state board in
5555 5 collaboration with the commission for higher education, must notify the
5656 6 parent and the student that enrollment in the course may affect the
5757 7 student's ability to attend a particular postsecondary educational
5858 8 institution or enroll in a particular course at a particular postsecondary
5959 9 educational institution because the course does not align with academic
6060 10 requirements established by the postsecondary educational institution.
6161 11 (c) (e) The state board shall adopt rules under IC 4-22-2 to establish:
6262 12 (1) math course requirements; and
6363 13 (2) science course requirements;
6464 14 for the Core 40 curriculum models adopted under this chapter.
