7	7	Synopsis: Automated vehicles. Provides that a person may not operate
8	8	an automated vehicle on a highway to transport passengers or goods
9	9	unless a human safety operator is physically present in the automated
10	10	vehicle to monitor the performance of the automated vehicle and to
11	11	intervene if necessary. Provides that a registered automated vehicle
12	12	must meet federal motor vehicle standards and regulations. Provides
13	13	that a human safety operator shall meet all state and federal
14	14	qualifications to operate a motor vehicle and an automated vehicle.

31	31	A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning
32	32	motor vehicles.
33	33	Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
34	34	1 SECTION 1. IC 9-13-2-6.4 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE
35	35	2 AS A NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY
36	36	3 1, 2023]: Sec. 6.4. "Automated vehicle" means a motor vehicle in
37	37	4 which at least one (1) aspect of a safety critical control function
38	38	5 occurs without direct input from an individual driving the motor
39	39	6 vehicle.
40	40	7 SECTION 2. IC 9-13-2-74.3 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE

42	42	9 1, 2023]: Sec. 74.3. "Human safety operator" means an individual
