33	18		1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION urging the Indiana
34	19		2 Department of Transportation to rename a section of State Road
35	20		3 13 in Madison County, beginning at 1795 South Anderson
36	21		4 Street and ending one mile south on State Road 13, the "Officer
37	22		5 Noah Jacob Shahnavaz Memorial Mile".
38	23		6 Whereas, Officer Noah Jacob Shahnavaz was born on May
39	24		7 18, 1998, to Matthew and Laurie (Bousman) Shahnavaz in
40	25		8 Indianapolis, Indiana;
41	26		9 Whereas, Noah attended Fishers High School, where he
42	27		10 was a freshman wrestler and a four-year member of the drum
43	28		11 line while also dedicating time towards early law enforcement
44	29		12 training through the J. Everett Light Law Enforcement
45	30		13 program;
46	31		14 Whereas, Following his high school graduation in 2016,
47	32		15 Noah enlisted in the United States Army, where he served as a
48	33		16 Sergeant in the 93D Military Police Battalion, deployed to the
49	34		17 Middle East from June 2017 to February 2018, and
50	35		18 participated in two border missions;
51	36		19 Whereas, Upon discharge from the Army in 2021, Noah
52	37		20 became an officer for the Elwood Police Department,
53	38		21 graduating from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in
54	39		22 April 2022;
55	40		23 Whereas, On July 31, 2022, Officer Shahnavaz initiated a
56	41		24 routine traffic stop on State Road 13 in Elwood, Indiana, which
57	42		25 culminated with the driver fatally shooting Officer Shahnavaz

59	44		1 near the intersection of State Road 13/37 and West 1000 North
60	45		2 before driving away; and
61	46		3 Whereas, Officer Shahnavaz's lifelong dedication to public
62	47		4 service for his state and country should be celebrated and
63	48		5 remembered by family, friends, and those traveling through
64	49		6 Madison County for years to come: Therefore,
65	50		7 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly
66	51		8 of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives
67	52		9 concurring:
68	53		10 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly urges the
69	54		11 Indiana Department of Transportation to rename a section of
70	55		12 State Road 13 in Madison County, beginning at 1795 South
71	56		13 Anderson Street and ending one mile south on State Road 13,
72	57		14 the "Officer Noah Jacob Shahnavaz Memorial Mile".
73	58		15 SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed
74	59		16 to transmit copies of this Resolution to the family of Officer
75	60		17 Noah Jacob Shahnavaz and the Commissioner of the Indiana
76	61		18 Department of Transportation.

79	64		Madam President: The Senate Committee on Homeland Security
80	65		and Transportation, to which was referred Senate Concurrent
81	66		Resolution No. 5, has had the same under consideration and begs leave
82	67		to report the same back to the Senate with the recommendation that
83	68		said resolution DO PASS.
