18 | 18 | | 6 Martinsville as a safe place for middle school youth in grades |

19 | 19 | | 7 five through eight to come after school to socialize with friends, |

20 | 20 | | 8 play games, eat, study, learn new skills, and perform |

21 | 21 | | 9 community service projects; |

22 | 22 | | 10 Whereas, Youth at the center have been instrumental in the |

23 | 23 | | 11 center's success by choosing the name, logo, and mission |

24 | 24 | | 12 statement, picking out equipment, making a commercial, and |

25 | 25 | | 13 inviting friends and community members to participate at the |

27 | 27 | | 15 Whereas, Haven youth have been provided opportunities to |

28 | 28 | | 16 experience a variety of events through the center, including an |

29 | 29 | | 17 overnight prevention retreat, participation in the CATCH My |

30 | 30 | | 18 Breath anti-vaping program, and taking part in positive action |
---|
31 | 31 | | 19 sessions to bolster self-esteem; |

32 | 32 | | 20 Whereas, Over the years members of the First Christian |

33 | 33 | | 21 Church and community grants have helped the Haven Youth |

34 | 34 | | 22 Center purchase a van and a building to house the program, |

35 | 35 | | 23 host retreats at a local campground, and establish a fund that |

36 | 36 | | 24 gives permanent support for local youth, giving them positive |

45 | 45 | | 7 volunteers who have all worked tirelessly to make the program |

47 | 47 | | 9 Whereas, For 25 years, local parents have trusted the |

48 | 48 | | 10 Haven Youth Center to be a safe place for their children to |

49 | 49 | | 11 drop in and mingle with friends and provide valuable guidance |

50 | 50 | | 12 to ensure the next generation of Martinsville has the resources |
