SENATE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION No. _____ 
1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating the
2 Haven Youth Center for its 25 years of service to the youth of
3 Martinsville.
4 Whereas, The Haven Youth Center in Martinsville, Indiana,
5 was established in 1998 by the First Christian Church of
6 Martinsville as a safe place for middle school youth in grades
7 five through eight to come after school to socialize with friends,
8 play games, eat, study, learn new skills, and perform
9 community service projects;
10 Whereas, Youth at the center have been instrumental in the
11 center's success by choosing the name, logo, and mission
12 statement, picking out equipment, making a commercial, and
13 inviting friends and community members to participate at the
14 center;
15 Whereas, Haven youth have been provided opportunities to
16 experience a variety of events through the center, including an
17 overnight prevention retreat, participation in the CATCH My
18 Breath anti-vaping program, and taking part in positive action
19 sessions to bolster self-esteem;
20 Whereas, Over the years members of the First Christian
21 Church and community grants have helped the Haven Youth
22 Center purchase a van and a building to house the program,
23 host retreats at a local campground, and establish a fund that
24 gives permanent support for local youth, giving them positive
25 reinforcement;

1 Whereas, Community organizations who have contributed
2 to the Haven Youth Center include the Morgan County
3 Substance Abuse Commission, The Byrum Trust, Rotary Club,
4 the Greater Martinsville Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club,
5 Kiwanis Club, Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion, First
6 Christian Church, Eastview Christian Church, and countless
7 volunteers who have all worked tirelessly to make the program
8 what it is today; and
9 Whereas, For 25 years, local parents have trusted the
10 Haven Youth Center to be a safe place for their children to
11 drop in and mingle with friends and provide valuable guidance
12 to ensure the next generation of Martinsville has the resources
13 to succeed:  Therefore,
14 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly
15 of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives
16	concurring:
17 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly
18 congratulates the Haven Youth Center for its 25 years of service
19 to the youth of Martinsville.
20 SECTION 2. That the Secretary of the Senate is hereby
21 directed to transmit copies of this Resolution to all Haven
22 Youth Center staff and volunteers.
