RESOLUTION No. ____
1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION urging the Indiana
2 Department of Transportation to rename that portion of State
3 Road 5 from State Road 218 to State Road 22 the "Ralph
4 Duckwall Memorial Highway".
5 Whereas, Ralph Duckwall was a lifelong resident of Van
6 Buren, Indiana, graduating from Van Buren High School in
7 1943 and attending services at the Van Buren United Methodist
8 Church his entire life;
9 Whereas, He was a farmer in Van Buren Township and an
10 active community member, serving as State Representative in
11 the General Assembly for the Grant County area from 1976 to
12 1986, during which time he was chairman of the Natural
13 Resources Committee and a member of the Agriculture and
14 Education Committees;
15 Whereas, He also served on the Grant County Council, Van
16 Buren Township Advisory Board, Eastbrook School
17 Corporation School Board, Grant County 4-H Board, and he
18 was the former director and Board President for
19 Grant-Blackford Farmers Mutual Insurance Company;
20 Whereas, He received the Sagamore of the Wabash award,
21 which was bestowed by Governor Robert Orr; and
22 Whereas, Ralph was adamant and persistent in keeping State
23 Road 5, through Van Buren to Upland, open as a state
24 highway, so it is only fitting it be named after him: Therefore,

1 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives
2 of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,
3 the Senate concurring:
4 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly urges the
5 Indiana Department of Transportation to rename that portion of
6 State Road 5 from State Road 218 to State Road 22 the "Ralph
7 Duckwall Memorial Highway".
8 SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
9 Representatives shall transmit copies of this resolution to the
10 Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Transportation.
