RESOLUTION No. ____
1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing
2 Wednesday, February 14, 2024, as a day to honor the work and
3 mission of the Indiana Region of the American Red Cross.
4 Whereas, The mission of the American Red Cross is to
5 prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of
6 emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the
7 generosity of donors;
8 Whereas, The American Red Cross provides about 40 percent
9 of the nation's blood supply, facilitating the donation of blood
10 to those who need it, including accident and burn victims, heart
11 surgery and organ transplant patients, and those receiving
12 treatment for leukemia or other cancers, or sickle cell disease;
13 Whereas, The nation is facing a blood shortage due to a
14 notable decline in blood donations;
15 Whereas, In times of crisis and strife, the Red Cross dedicates
16 all available resources to meet the blood needs of hospitals and
17 patients but cannot do it alone; and
18 Whereas, To overcome these immense challenges, the Red
19 Cross relies on Hoosiers to come together to support those in
20 greatest need: Therefore,
21 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives
22 of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,
23 the Senate concurring:
24 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly recognizes

1 Wednesday, February 14, 2024, as a day to honor the work and
2 mission of the Indiana Region of the American Red Cross.
3 SECTION 2. That the Indiana General Assembly urges both
4 its members and constituents to give to the Red Cross in some
5 way, whether by signing up to volunteer in their community,
6 contributing financially, or giving the heroic gift of a life-saving
7 blood donation.
