| 20 | 20 | | 5 Fire Department responded to a residential fire with intense |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | 6 flames engulfing both the first and second floors of the home; |

| 22 | 22 | | 7 Whereas, Engine 2 was the first company on the scene, and it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | 8 immediately initiated a rapid attack to advance into the heart |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | 9 of the blaze; |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | 10 Whereas, After suppressing a significant portion of the fire on |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | 11 the first floor, firefighters proceeded to the second floor, where |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | 12 multiple victims were reported to be trapped; |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | 13 Whereas, Amidst overwhelming heat and smoke from the fire, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | 14 the firefighters located and extracted a total of six victims, all |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | 15 of whom were children; |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | 16 Whereas, Tragically, all six children, varying from ages 17 |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | 17 months to 11 years, would later be pronounced deceased with |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | 18 one child surviving for almost five days after the fire; |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | 19 Whereas, The crew members of Engine 2 showed immense |

| 35 | 35 | | 20 courage and dedication in their attempts to save these young |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | 21 lives by exhibiting a profound disregard for their own safety in |

| 37 | 37 | | 22 the face of extreme danger; |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | 23 Whereas, One member of Engine 2 fell through the second |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | 24 floor onto the first while attempting to rescue the victims, and |

| 43 | 43 | | 3 Whereas, The actions of the firefighters of Engine 2 reflect the |

| 44 | 44 | | 4 highest ideals of selflessness and citizens-first ethos that is |

| 45 | 45 | | 5 characteristic of the bravery needed to be a firefighter: |

| 46 | 46 | | 6 Therefore, |

| 47 | 47 | | 7 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives |

| 48 | 48 | | 8 of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana, |

| 49 | 49 | | 9 the Senate concurring: |

| 50 | 50 | | 10 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly honors the |
|---|
| 51 | 51 | | 11 members of the South Bend Fire Department for their bravery |
|---|
| 52 | 52 | | 12 and heroic actions while responding to a house fire, and |
|---|
| 53 | 53 | | 13 remembers the young victims who tragically lost their lives in |
|---|
| 54 | 54 | | 14 that fire. |

| 55 | 55 | | 15 SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of |

| 56 | 56 | | 16 Representatives shall transmit copies of this resolution to State |
|---|
