77 1 A HOUSE RESOLUTION congratulating Munster Police
88 2 Chief Stephen Scheckel for 35 years of service.
99 3 Whereas, Chief Stephen Scheckel is a 35 year veteran of the
1010 4 Munster Police Department and has served as chief since his
1111 5 promotion in 2008;
1212 6 Whereas, Chief Scheckel holds a Master's Degree in Law
1313 7 Enforcement Administration and is a graduate of Northwestern
1414 8 University's Center for Public Safety;
1515 9 Whereas, Prior to becoming Chief of Police, he served as a
1616 10 patrol officer, D.A.R.E. officer, and a sergeant in the Patrol
1717 11 Division;
1818 12 Whereas, Chief Scheckel has served outside his community
1919 13 as one of the first coordinators for the Indiana Intelligence

2222 1 Fusion Center for Northwest Indiana, as a leader of the District
2323 2 1 Law Enforcement Strike Team since 2009, for which he was
2424 3 hand-selected by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security
2525 4 director, and as President of the Northwest Indiana Critical
2626 5 Infrastructure Group since 2011;
2727 6 Whereas, In 2008, the Town of Munster was severely
2828 7 impacted by excessive flooding due to Hurricane Ike, and Chief
2929 8 Scheckel was instrumental in establishing the Town of Munster
3030 9 Emergency Operations Center, which helped secure emergency
3131 10 assistance to the region;
3232 11 Whereas, Chief Scheckel has previously served on the FEMA
3333 12 Regional Advisory Council that encompassed the six
3434 13 Midwestern states of Region 5;
3535 14 Whereas, He remains active in volunteer community efforts
3636 15 with both the Rotary Club of Munster and the Munster Lion's
3737 16 Club, and he has received numerous awards and distinctions
3838 17 throughout the course of both his law enforcement career and
3939 18 volunteer service; and
4040 19 Whereas, Chief Scheckel has shown dedication to not only
4141 20 the Town of Munster but to the entire Northwest Indiana region
4242 21 over the course of his 35 years of service: Therefore,
4343 22 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the
4444 23 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
4545 24 SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives
4646 25 congratulates Munster Police Chief Stephen Scheckel for 35
4747 26 years of service.
4848 27 SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
4949 28 Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to State
5050 29 Representative Mike Andrade for distribution.
