1 A HOUSE RESOLUTION congratulating Munster Police
2 Chief Stephen Scheckel for 35 years of service.
3 Whereas, Chief Stephen Scheckel is a 35 year veteran of the
4 Munster Police Department and has served as chief since his
5 promotion in 2008;
6 Whereas, Chief Scheckel holds a Master's Degree in Law
7 Enforcement Administration and is a graduate of Northwestern
8 University's Center for Public Safety;
9 Whereas, Prior to becoming Chief of Police, he served as a
10 patrol officer, D.A.R.E. officer, and a sergeant in the Patrol
11 Division;
12 Whereas, Chief Scheckel has served outside his community
13 as one of the first coordinators for the Indiana Intelligence

1 Fusion Center for Northwest Indiana, as a leader of the District
2 1 Law Enforcement Strike Team since 2009, for which he was
3 hand-selected by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security
4 director, and as President of the Northwest Indiana Critical
5 Infrastructure Group since 2011;
6 Whereas, In 2008, the Town of Munster was severely
7 impacted by excessive flooding due to Hurricane Ike, and Chief
8 Scheckel was instrumental in establishing the Town of Munster
9 Emergency Operations Center, which helped secure emergency
10 assistance to the region;
11 Whereas, Chief Scheckel has previously served on the FEMA
12 Regional Advisory Council that encompassed the six
13 Midwestern states of Region 5;
14 Whereas, He remains active in volunteer community efforts
15 with both the Rotary Club of Munster and the Munster Lion's
16 Club, and he has received numerous awards and distinctions
17 throughout the course of both his law enforcement career and
18 volunteer service; and
19 Whereas, Chief Scheckel has shown dedication to not only
20 the Town of Munster but to the entire Northwest Indiana region
21 over the course of his 35 years of service: Therefore,
22 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the
23 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
24 SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives
25 congratulates Munster Police Chief Stephen Scheckel for 35
26 years of service.
27 SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
28 Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to State
29 Representative Mike Andrade for distribution.
