*HR1552* Introduced Version HOUSE RESOLUTION No. ___ Introduced by: Pfaff, Hamilton ____________________________________ 1 A HOUSE RESOLUTION recognizing Indiana's aluminum 2 recycling industry. 3 Whereas, Indiana's aluminum recycling industry and related 4 ecosystem (hereafter "aluminum recycling industry") is 5 recognized for its continued legacy of innovation in providing 6 sustainable secondary aluminum that enhances the domestic 7 supply of a critical material and meets growing demand from 8 domestic customers in the automotive, beverage packaging, and 9 consumer and industrial foil industries; 10 Whereas, The aluminum recycling industry strengthens the 11 domestic supply of aluminum, a critical material rich in critical 12 minerals, e.g., silicon, manganese, magnesium, and thus 13 reduces the United States' reliance on aluminum imported from 14 unreliable foreign markets; 20242323 HR 1552/DI 140 2024 2 1 Whereas, The aluminum recycling industry helps enhance 2 the economic security of the United States by bolstering the 3 domestic supply of aluminum; 4 Whereas, The aluminum recycling industry works to divert 5 infinitely recyclable aluminum scrap from landfills and ensure 6 its productive economic reuse; 7 Whereas, The aluminum recycling industry conserves and 8 produces secondary aluminum used extensively throughout the 9 domestic economy; 10 Whereas, The aluminum recycling industry helps support 11 thousands of good, high-paying Hoosier jobs; 12 Whereas, The aluminum recycling industry relies on the 13 technical skills and dedication of Hoosier workers to collect, 14 recycle, and reuse aluminum scrap; 15 Whereas, The aluminum recycling industry deploys creative, 16 market-oriented approaches to ensure pre-market and 17 post-market scrap is collected, recycled, and reused; 18 Whereas, The aluminum recycling industry continues to 19 research and develop innovative technologies to improve the 20 collection, sortation, and recycling of all types of aluminum 21 scrap; 22 Whereas, The aluminum recycling process is a relatively 23 energy efficient process resulting in fewer carbon emissions 24 than other material processes; 25 Whereas, The aluminum recycling industry is a purchaser of 26 primary aluminum, including from domestic sources; 27 Whereas, The aluminum recycling process will continue to 28 rely on primary aluminum; 29 Whereas, The aluminum recycling industry is critical to the 30 economic vitality and growth of Indiana and the United States; 31 and 20242323 HR 1552/DI 140 2024 3 1 Whereas, The aluminum recycling industry supports local, 2 state, and federal public policies that recognize and promote 3 the value of secondary aluminum: Therefore, 4 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the 5 General Assembly of the State of Indiana: 6 SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives 7 honors Indiana's aluminum recycling industry, including the 8 hardworking Hoosiers employed by it, as well as for its 9 continued legacy of innovation in conserving existing 10 aluminum, reducing reliance on foreign countries for 11 aluminum, and providing secondary aluminum that is 12 sustainable and offers high-quality, lightweight, durable, and 13 adaptive aluminum for use in many industries across Indiana 14 and the United States. 15 SECTION 2.
