21	19		5 Whereas, Edward Dale Workman was born on December
22	20		6 21, 1911, in Lyons, Indiana, to Edward E. Workman and Lottie
23	21		7 Workman;
24	22		8 Whereas, At five years old, Dale began his love for bridge
25	23		9 projects after he and his brother delivered eggs and butter to
26	24		10 men working on a local viaduct in Tulip, Indiana, and were
27	25		11 considered honorary members of the construction team;
28	26		12 Whereas, Dale enlisted in the United States Navy and
29	27		13 became a member of the Navy's Construction Battalions, better
30	28		14 known as the Navy Seabees, which provided a wide range of
31	29		15 construction support of operating forces, including roads,
32	30		16 bridges, bunkers, airfields, and logistics bases, and provided
33	31		17 responsive support for disaster recovery operations, performed
34	32		18 civic action projects to improve international relations, and
35	33		19 provided anti-terrorism and force protection for personnel and
36	34		20 construction projects;
37	35		21 Whereas, Following his military service, Dale settled in
38	36		22 Bloomfield, Indiana, where he worked for more than four
39	37		23 decades as an engineer and bridge supervisor for J.L. Wilson
40	38		24 Construction, building bridges across the State of Indiana,
41	39		25 including one spanning Little Blue River over I-64 near
42	40		26 English, Indiana;

44	42		1 Whereas, Outside of his bridge engineering work, Dale was
45	43		2 a member of a number of organizations, including the
46	44		3 Bloomfield American Legion Post 196, Worthington Veterans
47	45		4 of Foreign Wards 7117, Carpenters Union, Bloomfield Masonic
48	46		5 Lodge #84, was an elder and trustee at Bloomfield First
49	47		6 Presbyterian Church, and was a charter member of a volunteer
50	48		7 group that assisted in restoring Greene County's last covered
51	49		8 bridge, still spanning Plummer Creek; and
52	50		9 Whereas, Dale's influence on Indiana's transportation
53	51		10 infrastructure will be greatly missed and is deserving of
54	52		11 recognition: Therefore,
55	53		12 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly
56	54		13 of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives
57	55		14 concurring:
58	56		15 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly urges the
59	57		16 Indiana Department of Transportation to rename the eastbound
60	58		17 bridge on I-64 over the Little Blue River in Crawford County
61	59		18 the "Dale Workman Memorial Bridge".
62	60		19 SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed
63	61		20 to transmit copies of this Resolution to the family of Dale
64	62		21 Workman and the Commissioner of the Indiana Department of
65	63		22 Transportation.
