1414 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION to support the work of
1515 2 the Indiana Semiquincentennial Commission for the 250th
1616 3 Anniversary of the founding of the United States of America.
1717 4 Whereas, The 250th Anniversary of the founding of the
1818 5 United States of America will occur on July 4, 2026;
1919 6 Whereas, The United States Congress established the U.S.
2020 7 Semiquincentennial Commission to coordinate the
2121 8 commemoration and observation of the 250th Anniversary of
2222 9 the founding of the United States and related events;
2323 10 Whereas, The Indiana General Assembly on July 1, 2022,
2424 11 established the Indiana Semiquincentennial Commission to
2525 12 coordinate the commemoration and observation of the 250th
2626 13 Anniversary of our Nation's founding;
2727 14 Whereas, We must not forget the three Indiana Territory
2828 15 settlers, Squire Boone, George Mason, and Francois Busseron
2929 16 and their contributions to the American Revolution;
3030 17 Whereas, Although not officially recognized as such until
3131 18 1787, the territory northwest of the Ohio River was commonly
3232 19 known as the Northwest Territory and was largely uncontested
3333 20 during the early years of the American Revolution;
3434 21 Whereas, We must not forget the contributions of the Native
3535 22 American tribes that fought alongside early Americans against
3636 23 British rule, such as the Oneida and Tuscarora Nations;

3838 1 Whereas, In February of 1779, George Rogers Clark
3939 2 captured Fort Sackville (Vincennes). In March of that same
4040 3 year, an American detachment from Vincennes captured a
4141 4 British reinforcement fleet of seven boats carrying 40 soldiers,
4242 5 valuable supplies, and trade goods. These actions destroyed
4343 6 much of the British military strength in the Wabash Valley and
4444 7 marked the beginning of the end of British domination in
4545 8 America’s western frontier;
4646 9 Whereas, A total of four battles occurred during the
4747 10 American Revolution on Indiana soil;
4848 11 Whereas, Over 1,600 soldiers and patriots that served
4949 12 during the American Revolution are buried here in Indiana;
5050 13 Whereas, We acknowledge the contributions of the women
5151 14 of the American Revolution, such as Abigail Adams, Phillis
5252 15 Wheatley, Mary Ludwig Hays, and more, whose support helped
5353 16 ensure American victory;
5454 17 Whereas, It is in the interest of the State to recognize
5555 18 Indiana's unique role in the American Revolution by
5656 19 undertaking commemorative activities that honor all Hoosiers
5757 20 and enhance our collective understanding of the past, present,
5858 21 and future; and
5959 22 Whereas, We, the members of the Indiana General
6060 23 Assembly of the State of Indiana, are committed to supporting
6161 24 the work of the Indiana Semiquincentennial Commission and of
6262 25 the United States Semiquincentennial Commission and
6363 26 participating fully and enthusiastically in the nation's 250th
6464 27 anniversary: Therefore,
6565 28 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly
6666 29 of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives

6969 1 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly honors the
