K WALKER, BREAUX, QADDOURA , read first time and referred to Committee on 2024 RC 1526/DI SM Introduced Second Regular Session 123rd General Assembly (2024) SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION No. _____ 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating the 2 Lawrence Central High School girls basketball team on winning 3 the 2024 Indiana High School Athletic Association ("IHSAA") 4 Class 4A state championship title. 5 Whereas, On February 24, 2024, the Lawrence Central 6 High School girls basketball team capped off their season at 7 Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana, by winning 8 their first IHSAA Class 4A state championship title in school 9 history; 10 Whereas, The Lawrence Central girls basketball team 11 consists of Laila Abdurraqib, Katie Castro, Mariah Kenter 12 Garrett, Alexandria Harrington, Jessica Heavener, Melaya 13 Hughes, Jaylah Lampley, Lola Lampley, Aniyah McKenzie, 14 Janiyah Russell, and Daneijah Wynn; 15 16 Whereas, The Lawrence Central girls basketball team is 17 supported by Head Coach Jannon Lampley, Assistant Coaches 18 Holly Coulter, Terrence Johnson, and Bryce Stone, and 19 managers Rakiyah Hicks and Tasia Smith; 20 Whereas, The Lawrence Central Bears, ranked first overall 21 in Class 4A, advanced to the state championship game against 22 Lake Central High School following the team reaching a 23 daunting 29-1 record after defeating the Center Grove Trojans 24 in the semi-state game; 25 Whereas, Lawrence Central took control of the game in the 26 second quarter and never looked back, with junior Jaylah 2024 RC 1526/DI SM 2 1 Lampley leading the Bears in scoring with 19 points; 2 Whereas, The Lawrence Central Bears won the state 3 championship game against Lake Central High School with a 4 final score of 55-28, holding the Trojans to the fewest points 5 ever allowed by a team in an IHSAA 4A state championship 6 game; and 7 Whereas, The Lawrence Central Bears completed their 8 2023-2024 season with an overall record of 30-1, becoming the 9 third team in IHSAA history to have thirty wins in a season: 10 Therefore, 11 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly 12 of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives 13 concurring: 14 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly 15 congratulates the Lawrence Central High School girls 16 basketball team on winning the 2024 Indiana High School 17 Athletic Association ("IHSAA") Class 4A state championship 18 title. 19 SECTION 2.
