15	15	MADAM PRESIDENT:
16	16	I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
17	17	1 A SENATE RESOLUTION to honor Senator Eddie Melton
18	18	2 upon his retirement from the Indiana Senate.
19	19	3 Whereas, Senator Eddie Melton faithfully and honorably
20	20	4 served the constituents of Senate District 3, encompassing
21	21	5 portions of Lake County since November 22, 2016;
22	22	6 Whereas, Senator Melton received a B.S. of Organizational
23	23	7 Management from Calumet College of St. Joseph;
24	24	8 Whereas, Senator Melton served as a manager of
25	25	9 Corporate Citizen and Community Relations for Northern
26	26	10 Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO). Prior to joining
27	27	11 NIPSCO, Senator Melton worked as a grant officer for the
28	28	12 Legacy Foundation, Lake County's community foundation in
29	29	13 Northwest Indiana;
30	30	14 Whereas, Senator Melton has served as chairman of the
31	31	15 Indiana Commission on the Social Status of Black Males, has
32	32	16 served on the Indiana State Board of Education, and has served
33	33	17 as a national board member of the American Association of
34	34	18 Blacks in Energy (AABE);

36	36	1 Whereas, Senator Melton has been recognized as a national
37	37	2 leader in the area of youth mentoring, and in 2015, Senator
38	38	3 Melton worked with President Barack Obama's Administration
39	39	4 in implementing "My Brother's Keeper," an initiative designed
40	40	5 to address persistent opportunity gaps facing boys and young
41	41	6 men of color;
42	42	7 Whereas, In 2016 Senator Melton was selected to
43	43	8 participate in a fellowship program in Israel for national
44	44	9 African American leaders, sponsored by the American Israel
45	45	10 Education Foundation (AIEF), where Senator Melton explored
46	46	11 critical foreign policy and national security issues affecting
47	47	12 both Israel and the United States;
48	48	13 Whereas, Senator Melton was named as one of "20 Under
49	49	14 40" young professionals in Northwest Indiana by the NWI
50	50	15 Times Media Company, was a South Shore Leadership Award
51	51	16 winner, and was chosen as the Freshman Legislator of the Year
52	52	17 by the Indiana Association of Rehabilitation Facilities. He was
53	53	18 elected by lawmakers from around the country to serve on the
54	54	19 Executive Committee of the National Conference of State
55	55	20 Legislators and is a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity
56	56	21 Inc.;
57	57	22 Whereas, Senator Melton has served as Ranking Minority
58	58	23 member for the Senate committees on Education and Career
59	59	24 Development and Appropriations, a member of the committees
60	60	25 on Health and Provider Services, Public Policy, Tax and Fiscal
61	61	26 Policy, and a member of the School Funding Formula
62	62	27 Subcommittee; and
63	63	28 Whereas, Senator Melton lives in Gary, Indiana with his
64	64	29 wife, Crystal, and their four children: Therefore,
65	65	30 Be it resolved by the Senate of the
66	66	31 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

68	68	1 SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate honors Senator Eddie
69	69	2 Melton upon his retirement and thanks him for his many years
70	70	3 of service to the Indiana Senate and Senate District 3.
71	71	4 SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed
72	72	5 to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Senator Eddie Melton.
