SENATE RESOLUTION ____
MADAM PRESIDENT:  
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
1 A SENATE RESOLUTION honoring our current and fallen
2 heroes in Firefighter Cancer Awareness Month. 
3 Whereas, Firefighters have a 9% higher risk of being
4 diagnosed with cancer than the general American population; 
5 Whereas, Pike Township Fire Department and Trustee
6 Annette Johnson have made strides toward firefighter safety by
7 piloting a project for a new and innovative decontamination
8 and maintenance facility; 
9 Whereas, This new facility is designed to provide efficient,
10 effective gear cleaning that will reduce long-term exposure to
11 carcinogens; 
12 Whereas, The International Association of Fire Fighters
13 (IAFF) has established an online accessible guide, sharing
14 information for prevention and care by capturing the stories of
15 fallen heroes, survivors, and current fighters; 
16 Whereas, 50 years ago, the IAFF dedicated the month of
17 January to Firefighter Cancer Awareness and has provided our
18 heroes with lifesaving tools and guidance to develop protocols

1 for cancer prevention and lift those who have already been
2 diagnosed within their units; and
3 Whereas, In January, every month beyond, and every year
4 to follow, we honor those who have volunteered their lives and
5 service to fire rescue and safety: Therefore, 
6	Be it resolved by the Senate of the
7 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
8 SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate recognizes the month
9 of January as Firefighter Cancer Awareness Month. 
10 SECTION 2. That the Indiana Senate sends our support to
11 those present and past that are or have suffered from
12 occupational cancer from their service in this line of duty.
