SENATE RESOLUTION ____
MADAM PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
1 A SENATE RESOLUTION recognizing the 50th
2 anniversary of the National Conference of State Legislatures.
3 Whereas, The National Conference of State Legislatures
4 (NCSL) was founded on January 1, 1975, from the merger of
5 three organizations that served or represented state legislatures
6 and shared the belief that legislative service is one of
7 democracy's worthiest pursuits;
8 Whereas, NCSL is a bipartisan organization that has
9 evolved during the past half century to become the premier
10 organization solely dedicated to serving state and territorial
11 legislators and legislative staff;
12 Whereas, NCSL seeks to advance the effectiveness,
13 independence, and integrity of state legislatures, foster
14 interstate communication and cooperation, and ensure a
15 strong, cohesive voice in the federal system;
16 Whereas, Our nation's state legislatures are America's
17 laboratories of democracy, best suited to tackle emerging
18 challenges by bringing together people from different
19 backgrounds and communities to find common ground;

1 Whereas, NCSL facilitates the exchange of ideas, provides
2 critical research and information, encourages rigorous review
3 of complex issues confronting our communities, states, and
4 nation, and strives to strengthen the bond between America's
5 state legislatures and the international community; and
6 Whereas, On January 1, 2025, NCSL will celebrate 50
7 years of robust legislative support: Therefore,
8 Be it resolved by the Senate of the
9 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
10 SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate recognizes the 50th
11 anniversary of the National Conference of State Legislatures
12 and honors their superb leadership and commitment to the
13 legislative institution.
14 SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed
15 to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the National Conference
16 of State Legislatures.
