SENATE RESOLUTION No. 12
MADAM PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
1 A SENATE RESOLUTION urging the Legislative Council
2 to assign to an appropriate study committee the topic of the
3 concentration of mining operations.
4 Whereas, The concentration of gravel pits in Plymouth,
5 Indiana, has resulted in adverse effects on the local community,
6 including increased noise and air pollution and disruption of
7 the natural landscape;
8 Whereas, Safeguarding the quality of life and well-being of
9 residents of areas affected by gravel pits or other mining
10 operations requires careful consideration of measures that
11 address the impacts of those operations;
12 Whereas, One vital measure to consider is the strategic
13 reduction in the permissible housing density within the affected
14 zone of a mining operation; and
15 Whereas, It is necessary to conduct a thoughtful study of
16 the impacts of mining operations on local communities and the
17 efficacy of any measures to mitigate the overall impact, to
18 protect the health and well-being of residents, and to promote
19 communities that meet the needs of the current population while

1 fostering sustainable and harmonious growth for generations
2 to come: Therefore,
3 Be it resolved by the Senate of the
4 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
5 SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate urges the Legislative
6 Council to assign to an appropriate study committee the topic
7 of the concentration of mining operations in urban areas.
8 SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed
9 to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the Legislative Council.
